A video showing a teacher brutally beating a student inside a Gurukul has gone viral on social media. The incident is being shared with a caste-based angle, with claims that a lower-caste student was flogged in a Hindu ashram for falling asleep on a bed. However, our investigation found that this claim is misleading.
An X account named Crime Reports India shared the video with the caption “Hindu Ashram Flogging a Lower Caste Hindu woman because she slept on the bed. Hindu religion is original Taliban.”

Another X account named Revolt wrote “A Hindu Ashram flogged a lower caste Hindu woman because she slept on the bed. If this is not a violation against human and women’s rights, then what is it? Everyone bashes the Muslims; why not them?”
Similarly, an X account named “Anees” also shared the video while making the same claim.

Fact Check
During our fact-checking process, we extracted key frames from the viral video and conducted a reverse image search. This led us to a report by Jagran & Aajtak related to the incident. According to the report, the video is from Adarsh Ved Vidyalaya, operated under the Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratishthan in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
The incident reportedly took place around 10 PM on March 15. The person seen beating the student in the video has been identified as a teacher named Dattdas, who is seen brutally thrashing the student with a stick for sleeping on another student’s bed. Following the viral spread of the video, the police took cognizance of the matter and registered a case against the accused teacher under relevant sections of law. Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
According to a report by Amar Ujala, Chintaman Police Station in-charge Hemraj Yadav stated that the video had come to their notice. The police conducted counselling of the minor student and her parents. Based on the minor’s statement and medical examination, a case has been registered under relevant child protection laws, including Sections 115 and 296 of the BNS, along with Section 75 (82). However, during our investigation, we did not find any credible reports suggesting that the students were beaten for their lower-caste identity.
