Viral Video Claiming Iran’s Attack on Haifa Oil Refinery Is Misleading

A video showing a massive fire and explosion is going viral on social media. The footage first shows a huge plume of smoke, followed by a sudden blast. It is being claimed that the video is from the Iran–Israel conflict, alleging that Iran carried out a missile strike on the Bazan oil refinery in Haifa. However, our investigation found that this claim is false.

An X user named Sheikh Mukammal Hussain shared the viral video and wrote, “Footage of an Iranian missile attack on the Bazan oil refinery located in Haifa, Israel.”

Another X user, AJAZ_ONE, also shared the video and wrote, “A precise strike by Iranian missiles on the Bazan oil refinery in Haifa, Israel. The Bazan Group supplies 65% of Israel’s diesel fuel, 59% of gasoline, and 52% of kerosene.”

An X handle named China Live wrote, “Confirmed: Iran has completely destroyed the Haifa oil refinery in Israel, leaving it without the vital fuel for its war machinery.”

Fact Check

During our fact-checking process, we extracted key frames from the video and conducted a reverse image search. During the investigation, we found the same video on the YouTube channel of NDTV Profit, uploaded on March 8, 2026. According to the channel, the video shows an Israeli strike on the Shahran oil depot in Tehran. Reports also confirm that multiple oil storage sites in Tehran, including the Shahran depot, were hit, triggering massive fires and explosions with thick plumes of smoke.
