Our team spotted the PRB logo in the top right corner of the video that the AAP Twitter account shared. We searched the PRB’s YouTube channel to learn the whole interview’s backstory. Gujarat mein kiski sarkaar?, an interview series by the PRB, was started on September 7, 2022.

PRB posted the a video on its YouTube channel on September 7, 2022, claiming that the common man belonging to Hindu community of Gujarat desire a change in government. In the 11 mins 52 sec long video, anchor Danish Anzar, while talking to the people living in Kheda, sought their opinion about the upcoming Gujarat election.

The people of Gujarat are clearly fed up with the present government, which is being criticised for issues like unemployment, toxic liquor, corruption, and the GST, among others, as shown in the video. They criticised the Gujarat model, accused the BJP of practicing Hindutva politics and feigned nationalism, and claimed that despite being Hindus, they had lost faith in the BJP government and desired to elect the Aam Aadmi Party in upcoming election.

Fact Check

Our team conducted research to verify whether the people identifying as a “common man” in the video posted by AAP and PRB are indeed a common man. Considering that the anchor stated at the beginning of the video that he is interviewing residents of Kheda, this point served as an important part of our research. We searched through the Facebook page of Aam Aadmi Party Kheda and the truth behind the video turned out to be different.

In our research, we established that the people posing as a common man in the video are the volunteers of the Aam Aadmi Party.

The man who got featured in the video shared by the AAP’s Twitter handle is an AAP volunteer. He and other volunteers can be seen holding pamphlet while standing outside the Collector and District Magistrate office.

In the start of the video shared on PRB YouTube page, a man can be seen opposing the GST move by the BJP. Through his Twitter profile we discovered that his name is Kamlesh Vaghela and he is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Another “common man” stating that the people working in the business sector wants to elect the Aam Aadmi party in the forthcoming election is spotted with the AAP’s Gujarat President Gopal Italia in one of the videos shared on the Aam Aadmi Party Kheda Facebook page.

Further, we found on the Facebook page of AAP Kheda unit that the two people who are featured in the PRB’s video, accusing the BJP of purchasing MLAs and taking jibe at the BJP for creating unemployment, attended the Aam Aadmi Party event.

The AAP volunteer who throughout the entire video criticized the BJP for its Hindutva politics and fake nationalism and appeared to be immensely dissatisfied with the BJP government can be seen posing beside the AAP leader Manoj Sorathia.

The entire team in the video posing as a common man are members of the AAP Kheda unit.

Along with the Aam Aadmi Party and its volunteers from Kheda, Gujarat, the PRB attempted to mislead the people. We don’t know what the voters of Gujarat want in the next election, but masking political party volunteers as a “common man” and making them speak on behalf of the whole population is another attempt to influence and mislead Gujarat voters voting decisions.
