Swiggy didn’t advertise against Zomato

In a recent development, Zomato, the popular food delivery service, introduced a distinct offering catering exclusively to pure vegetarian consumers. This specialized service promises to exclusively source food from vegetarian restaurants, delivered by vegetarian delivery personnel. However, following its launch, Zomato faced criticism from leftist and Islamist factions on social media platforms. Meanwhile, amidst the ongoing discourse, an alleged graphic advertisement by Swiggy has gained traction online.

Varun wrote, ‘Swiggy marketing top notch ad.’

Senthil wrote, ‘Great to see India come down to this…Mob lynching/ discrimination due to eating preferences.’

Blue Sattai Maran wrote, ‘New swiggy ad amid the Zomato PURE veg issue.’

Chatur wrote, ‘What I order and eat is my business and my business alone. No need to advertise my food preferences to the world.’

Apart from this, Bhupesh Khosla, Al Kareem, Hemant, LeoDas, and Raunak Sinha shared the infographic image of Swiggy.

The alleged graphic advertisement of Swiggy says, “In Indian neighbourhood, your dietary preferences are best kept private. Our delivery fleet doesn’t leak your private habits to the world. You also save some money as we don’t have to pay for the life insurance of our delivery staff against possible mob lynching.”

Fact Check

Our investigation started with thoroughly examining Swiggy’s official social media handle to determine if the food delivery service made any similar posts. Following an extensive search, no such infographic was discovered on the platform as alleged by social media users. However, Swiggy explicitly refuted the authenticity of the viral infographic advertisement, categorically denouncing it as fake.

Swiggy in response said, “We came across a fake ad this morning regarding a recent controversy. If it’s not obvious, this is NOT an ad by Swiggy. It was neither created by us or anybody affiliated with Swiggy.”

Upon closer examination of the viral photograph, it became evident that it was digitally generated, exhibiting several inaccuracies such as distorted features on a bearded man’s fingers and an individual in the background depicted with three hands. Additionally, utilizing an AI image detection application, it was confirmed by the AI or NOT website that the viral image was likely AI-created.

In summary, the viral assertion suggesting Swiggy’s advertisement linking vegetarian food delivery with mob lynching is unfounded. Swiggy has not engaged in any such advertising campaign against Zomato’s new vegetarian service model.
