A video is going viral on social media claiming to show the capital of Israel, Tel Aviv, in ruins. The aerial drone footage shows a city completely devastated, with users alleging that Iran has attacked Israel and destroyed Tel Aviv. However, our investigation found that this claim is misleading.

Saba Khan wrote,“Tel Aviv, a drone-shot view — it has truly turned into Gaza. Seven billion people in the world have prayed for this; how could those prayers not be accepted?”

Mohammad shams wrote, “Drone footage from above documents the massive and extensive destruction over Tel Aviv.”

China Live wrote, ‘DRONE FOOTAGE ABOVE TEL AVIV: Iran has leveled the city to the ground. Total devastation seen from above.’

Similarly, X handles named TMT and GBX also shared the video with the same claim.

Fact Check

In our fact-check, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and conducted a reverse image search. During this process, we found the same footage uploaded on a YouTube channel named Дневник on July 26, 2023, where it was identified as being from Bakhmut, a city in Ukraine.

According to the video’s description, the drone footage shows the heavily destroyed city of Bakhmut, which was once home to around 72,000 people before the war. It became a major target during the conflict due to Russia’s aggression, and intense fighting eventually turned it into a near ghost town.
