A video circulating on social media appears to show a mob attempting to hang a man with a rope. The footage is being shared with the claim that members of a Hindutva group lynched a Christian man for unintentionally entering a Hindu temple while wearing slippers.
Sharing the video, the handle Manipur Post wrote, ”India’s PM Modi wishes to the Christian community on “Good Friday,” the same day his Hindutva goons brutally tortured and hanged a Christian minority alive. This is what India is doing to its minorities”

Another handle Freedom News stated, ”Hindu RSS radicals in India hanged a Christian ✝️ man to death for entering a temple belonging to Hindu supremacists. Show me one thing that the fanatical Hindus haven’t done similar to the ISIS”

Another handle Asia Decoded asserted, ”Radical Hindutva gang members allegedly lynched a Christian man for unintentionally entering a Mandir (Hindu temple) with slippers.”

Fact Check
During our fact-check research, we extracted keyframes from the video and conducted a reverse image search. Through this process, we found a post by the official X handle of Rajasthan Police dated April 28, 2024. The post revealed that the same video had gone viral earlier in April 2024 with a caste-based claims attributing the incident to Rajasthan. However, Rajasthan Police had refuted the claim and stated that it was fake.
विभिन्न सोशल मीडिया हैंडल्स पर कुछ असामाजिक तत्व एक #FakeVideo पोस्ट कर घटना #राजस्थान की होने का दावा कर रहे हैं।
— Rajasthan Police (@PoliceRajasthan) April 28, 2024
pic.twitter.com/5WPiaRaoxX
Upon further investigation, we closely examined the viral video and identified several details indicating that the scene is staged. The footage depicts an individual being hanged inside a tent-like set up. Onlookers can be seen calmly observing the entire spectacle from nearby rooftops, while announcements are audible in the background via loudspeakers. All these factors suggest that this scene is not a depiction of a genuine incident, but rather part of a theatrical performance.
Additionally, we conducted keyword searches on Google using terms such as “Christian man hanged for entering temple wearing slippers,” but found no recent media reports about any such hate crime against a Christian man.
In conclusion, the claim that members of a radical Hindutva group lynched a Christian man for entering a Hindu temple while wearing slippers is misleading. Our investigation found that the video in question is old and has previously been shared with different misleading narratives. Evidence suggests that the video does not depict a real incident but rather appears to be part of a staged dramatic performance.
