A drone was reportedly found in a field in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh. Soon after this, several Pakistani social media handles began claiming that it was a crashed Indian military drone. However, our investigation found that this claim is misleading.

A handle named Pakistan Strategic Forum shared an image of the crashed drone and wrote, “Reports suggest that an Indian military drone crashed into a wheat field in Nandpur village, Etawah, Uttar Pradesh.”

An X handle named Ironclad wrote, “BREAKING: Just in, Indian military drone crashed in Uttar Pradesh region.”

War Analysts wrote “An Indian Military Drone crashed into a wheat field in Nandpur village Saifai Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh”

Similarly, X handles named Times of Islamabad, Mohsin Ali, Asad Nasir, and IRVES also shared the same claim.

Fact Check

To verify the claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. During this process, we found the image of the viral crashed drone in a report by Dainik Bhaskar. According to the report, a drone resembling a small helicopter was found crashed in a wheat field in Nandpur village of Saifai area in Etawah at around 6:30 PM on Friday. As per the administration, the drone crashed due to a technical issue during a test flight that was being conducted with permission from the Civil Aviation Department. No casualties or property damage were reported in the incident.

Etawah Additional District Magistrate Abhinav Ranjan Srivastava stated that prior permission had been granted for the use of the Saifai airstrip. Under this authorization, LAT Aerospace was conducting a test flight of its UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) prototype. During the test, the drone lost control and crashed into a field near Nandpur village.

According to a Jagran report, SDM Siddharth Chaudhary confirmed that the crashed drone does not belong to the Indian Army but to a private company. He said the company had permission to conduct drone training at the airstrip. During the training, one drone lost control due to a technical issue and crashed in the Nandpur area. He also confirmed that the drone was unmanned and no casualties were reported.
