Claims of making Hindu children thrashing Muslim child in Muzaffarnagar school is misleading

A video is viral on social media these days. In this video, at the behest of a school teacher, one student after another is beating a student standing near the teacher. The video is accompanied by people claiming that a Muslim student was thrashed by Hindu students. However, propaganda journalist Wasim Akram Tyagi shared the video and wrote, Teacher Tripta Tyagi, who runs Neha Public School in Khubbapur village of Mansoorpur police station area in Muzaffarnagar, is getting a Muslim child to be beaten one by one by Hindu children, how much poison is in the mind of this madam. He further wrote strict action must be taken for this. This mentality will make society a canker.

Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi after taking note of the incident wrote, Sowing the poison of discrimination in the minds of innocent children, turning a holy place like school into a marketplace of hatred – nothing worse a teacher can do for the country. This is the same kerosene spread by the BJP which has set every corner of India on fire. Children are the future of India – do not hate them, we all have to teach love together.

National President of Indian Youth Congress, Srinivas BV wrote, Prime Minister, how is your sleep? I am disgusted by the viral video of a teacher in Muzaffarnagar who encouraged her students to attack a child on the basis of his religion. This is a blatant violation of human rights and dignity, and a despicable act of hatred and violence. I reject this crime and call for action against the teacher and the school.

Another Propaganda journalist Rohini Singh wrote, the hate spread by Noida channels has reached classrooms where a teacher is asking Hindu kids to beat a Muslim boy. The teacher is seen egging on the Hindu kids to hit harder and is heard making communal statements. The Muslim kid stands all alone weeping at the humiliation. The demonisation of minorities is a special project undertaken by Noida channels and it has emboldened ordinary citizens to spew the same hate as is being taught to them through primetime shows.

Apart from this, Ali Sohrab, Kavish Aziz, Shams Tabrez Qasmi, Shyam Meera Singh, Sadaf Afreen, Kashif Arsalaan and Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj also shared the viral video and made similar claims.

So, is it true that a woman Teacher in Muzaffarnagar school is making Hindu children beat Muslim children? Let’s Fact Check.

Fact Check

In the investigation, we first saw that social media users are telling this video of ‘Neha Public School’ in Khubbapur village of Mansoorpur police station area. That’s why we contacted school teacher Trupti Tyagi with the help of a local journalist. He told us that this matter is related to his school but the video is being shared with the wrong context.

Teacher Trupti Tyagi told us that in the video she says, ‘All the Momdan (Muslim) children, their mothers go to their maternal homes, this harms their children’s education.’ In the investigation, we found that after the statement of Madam, the person making the video also says, ‘You are right, their studies get affected with this.’

Trupti Tyagi told us, The student who was beaten in the video was not coming after remembering the Math’s table for two days. That’s why he asked other students to slap the student. But I have not made Hindu children thrash a Muslim, two of the students who slapped are from the Muslim community. Trupti Tyagi also told us the names of two Muslim students, but keeping in mind their privacy, we are not mentioning them here.

When we asked him that if it was the student’s fault, then why didn’t you punish the student himself. In response the teacher told us, ‘I am leg handicapped, not able to get up from the chair again and again. That’s why other students were asked to slap. However my method was wrong. I will not do this in future. I apologize for this. Trupti Tyagi told us that the video was made by the student’s cousin Nadeem. He drives JCB, came to the school to talk about pouring soil in the plot.

Apart from this, we found the video of Muzaffarnagar Superintendent of Police, Satyanarayan Prajapat. In which he has told that investigation was done in relation to the objectionable comment in the viral video, then it was found that it was declared by the female teacher that the education of the Muslim children whose mothers do not pay attention to their studies is destroyed. The Superintendent of Police said that the person who made the video has also confirmed this.

After this, we spoke to Manoj Pal, husband of Doli, the current head of the village. When we asked him about the claim of teacher Trupti Tyagi being disabled, he told us that it is true that the teacher is disabled. Along with this, she said that her husband is also handicapped. Both the disabled couple run the school. Manoj Pal told us that his two children also study at Neha Public School. Manoj Pal told that this matter is not of Hindu-Muslim.

Moreover, when we asked him about the treatment of Muslim students in the school, he told that the teacher couple are gentlemen. They never discriminate anyone on the basis of religion. Last year, a married Muslim man of the village had eloped with a woman, then the teacher couple taught his 5 children for free in their private school.

After this we contacted Brijesh Tyagi, former head of the village. Brijesh told us that there is no such thing as Hindu-Muslim in this incident. An agreement has been reached between both the parties in the village.

At the last stage of our investigation, we contacted Nadeem to make the video with the help of Pradhan Pati Manoj Pal. Nadeem told us that in the video, the madam says, ‘If the mothers of Muslim children go to their maternal homes, this harms the education of the children.’

After this, we asked Nadeem why did you suddenly go to school? In reply, Nadeem told that I drive JCB, Madam has built a new school. His plot is bumpy. So, I went for that work. When I reached there, madam was getting my uncle’s boy beaten. I did not interrupt and came back after making the video.

We also asked Nadeem whether the teacher was getting the Hindu children to beat up the Muslim child? In response, Nadeem told that this thing is wrong, there is nothing like this Hindu-Muslim. People have misrepresented the video. Nadeem further said that the teacher couple is handicapped.

Hence, it is clear from our investigation that the claim of Hindu children beating up a Muslim child is false. In the video, the teacher did not ask the Muslim children to go here and there, nor did she say beat the Muslim children. In the viral video, the method of the teacher beating the student in the school is definitely wrong, but this is not a matter of discrimination on the basis of religion.
