On May 4th, 2023, Pawan Boxer, a Congress supporter and former State Secretary of NSUI, shared a viral video on Twitter showing several men firing guns on the road at night. In his post, Pawan Boxer claimed that the incident occurred in Manipur and blamed Modi’s “double engine” government for the violence. He accused the government of not doing enough to prevent such incidents. Pawan Boxer’s post included a provocative question, “Now Dalal media and Modi devotees should tell that which opposition and leaders had gone here to provoke?” implying that the Modi government always blames their political opponents for any kind of violence in the country without realizing their own responsibility. He also used the hashtag #ManipurOnFire, suggesting that the entire state is engulfed in violence.

Our investigation into the viral video led us to perform a reverse video search, which led us to a similar video posted on the Instagram account “threatty.” The video featured the same visuals as the viral video. However, we were stunned to discover that the video had been posted on July 5, 2020, in paid partnership with another account called aexairsoftextreme.” This revelation proved that the video is approx 3 years old.
