In a dig at the Modi government, Prakash Raj and Sathish Reddy, members of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, formerly known as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, presented data that claimed in a tweet that in 2014, India ranked 36th and 56th in the Corruption Perception and Food Security Index, respectively, while in 2022, it has increased to the 85th and 71st positions. The data also claimed that the Rule of Law Index rank of India in 2014 was 35th, while it slipped to 46th in 2022.

Fact Check

We started our research by cross verifying the data given by Prakash Raj and found that according to Transparency International statistics, India’s rank in the Corruption Perception Index in 2014 was 85th, with a score of 38. Recent updates in the survey reveal that India’s score in 2021 was 40 with no change in rank. Prakash Raj conveniently provided the 2014 figures in a score, but he cited the 2022 figures in a rank.

Talking about the Food Security Index globally, figures from The Economist Intelligence Unit reveal that, contrary to the data given by Prakash Raj, India placed 69th in the GFSI in 2014 not 56th as claimed. According to another recent study from the same source, India’s rank in 2022 is 68th, not 71st, with an overall score of 58.9.

Furthermore, we discovered that in 2014, the World Justice Project created the Rule of Index by surveying 99 nations worldwide. According to its survey, India ranked 66th, not 35th, out of 99 nations, with a score of 0.48.

The data given by Prakash Raj is misleading. He provided the data in a manipulative way to suit his agenda.
