Recently an image is going viral on X (formerly Twitter) with a claim that India is planning to connect Mumbai to Dubai through a 2000 km long bridge in the sea. Many handles with substantial followers have endorsed this claim.
Naya Pakistan, a Pakistan-based media channel, wrote, “India is going to connect Mumbai with Dubai through a 2000 km long bridge in the sea.” The tweet has garnered around 8.2K likes and almost 4 lakh view.

The same claim was also propagated by other two users going by the name Naveed Saifal and handle @/mr_Jacksons_θ.

Fact Check
We began our research by searching relevant keywords in Hindi and English on Google and various social media platforms to look for authentic and reliable media sources that support this claim. However, there exists no media report announcing that “India is building a 2000 km long bridge to connect Mumbai to Dubai”.
Additionally, while scrutinizing social media platforms, we also checked social media handles of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of External Affairs but did not find any such announcement.
However, when the Only Fact team was investigating the X platform using the keywords “Mumbai,” “Dubai,” and “Bridge,” we came across a tweet from Cyrus Dhabar. In his tweet, the user revealed that the news of India building a bridge connecting Mumbai and Dubai was part of an April Fool’s prank. He also created a government agency called BHAI (Bi-Country Highway Association of India) as part of the joke. Some media outlets mistakenly covered this prank as real news.
The user wrote, “So we did an April Fools prank stating there will be a bridge between Bombay and Dubai. We even made up a govt agency – BHAI – Bi-Country Highway Association of India. Some media outlets have actually covered it as actual news. And I’m dying laughing.”

Furthermore, in our research, we also found that the according to Economic Times report, the longest bridge is the Atal Setu Bridge, with a length of about 16.5 km over the sea and approximately 5.5 km on land which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
However, we also learned that the UAE plans to build a 2,000 km long underwater railway to connect Mumbai to Fujairah. The project aims to boost bilateral trade by exporting oil from Fujairah Port and importing surplus water from the Narmada River. The train will travel at high speed under the Arabian Sea and cover a total distance of more than 1,862 kilometers in two hours.
Conclusion: The viral image claiming that India is planning to build a 2000 km long bridge connecting Mumbai and Dubai is false. The claim was part of an April Fool’s prank.
