Clip Claiming PM Modi Refused to Accept Ganesha Idol Is Misleading
An 11-second video clip of Prime Minister Modi is rapidly going viral on social media. In this clip, he can be seen on the stage of a cultural event, where he is presented with an idol of deity Ganesha; however, he purportedly declines to accept it and asks the individual to step away. Many users are sharing this video with the claim that, in front of the cameras, even God is sidelined, insinuating that whenever cameras are present, PM Modi disregards even the Divine.
Sharing the video, the handle Priyanka Bharti wrote, ”Even God should not come before the great man!”
User Adv. Vijay Singh stated, ”As soon as the camera turns on, even God is pushed to the sidelines, because now only the “great man” should remain in the frame.”
Another handle Pawan Tiwari asserted, ”Now, even Lord Ganesha has begun to object to this so-called great man. This is its reality. We made a grave mistake in considering him the ‘Emperor of Hindu Hearts.’ Today, there is deep regret over having voted for him.”
The video was also shared by other handles such as Vikram, Atul Londhe Patil, @PropagandaRaid, @ManuvadiBrijesh and @Afsarali190.

During our fact-check research, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and conducted a reverse image search. Through this process, we found the same video posted on the official YouTube channel of the Bharatiya Janata Party on May 3, 2023. The title of the video indicates that it is from a rally addressed by PM Modi in Ankola during the Karnataka elections.
Upon further investigation, we carefully examined the video and found that the viral frame appears at the 2:05 mark. It can be clearly seen therein that individuals present on the stage are adorning PM Modi with Yakshagana ornaments; these are handcrafted jewelries that constitute an essential part of the costumes used in Yakshagana theatrical performances. Subsequently, a woman on the stage honors PM Modi by draping a shawl over him. During this, another individual approaches the PM holding an idol of deity Ganesha. However, since several people were already surrounding the PM and presenting him with ceremonial items, the PM asks that individual to wait briefly.
Further in the video at the timeframe of 2:27 minute, PM Modi can be seen accepting an idol of deity Ganesha from the same individual and posing for the camera with him.
In conclusion, the claim that PM Modi refused to accept an idol of deity Ganesh is misleading. The video circulating online has been cropped and taken out of context. The full video shows that Modi briefly asked the person offering the idol to wait, as several people were presenting him with ceremonial items. He subsequently accepts the idol.
