Viral Claim “NDTV Poll Confirms Congress Win in Telangana” is Fake

The claim of NDTV conducting survey and declaring Congress win in Telangana is going viral.

Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, and Rajasthan have completed their polling. Now, all attentions are on Telangana, which will hold its election on November 30. On December 3, the results of the elections in all five states will be announced. As the election campaign comes to an end today in Telangana, all the three parties; the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), are striving hard to form the government. Meanwhile, a graphic claiming NDTV polls of polls have confirmed that Congress is winning Telangana is being widely circulated on social media.

Congress national spokesperson and fake news peddler Supriya Shrinate (Archived link) on X (formerly Twitter) claimed in her tweet that surveys conducted by NDTV confirm that Congress is winning majority of the seats in Telangana.

Another account, The Spirit of Congress (Archived link) shared a graphic showing NDTV polls and wrote, “Most Opinion Polls are predicting that in Telangana, BRS is staring at their biggest defeat due to huge anti-incumbency against KCR govt. NDTV Poll of Polls Tracker predicted a historic win for Congress Party with a possibility of getting 75 seats.”

The account Nargis Bano (Archived link), known for often spreading misinformation, wrote, “NDTV Poll of Polls Update: Majority projection for Congress gains momentum with 75 anticipated seats. KCR’s BRS faces unprecedented anti-incumbency, possibly leading to a significant political recalibration.”

The satire account of Lalu Prasad (Archived link) also made the same claim.

The same claim along with the same graphic was also propagated by many Congress supporter handles Surbhi (Archived link), Anshuman Sail Nehru (Archived link), and Swati Dixit (Archived link).

Fact Check

In our fact check, we first searched the keyword “NDTV survey confirms Congress victory in Telangana” but we did not find any such poll by NDTV.

Next, we checked the social media handles of NDTV and found a tweet on the X platform. In its tweet (Archived link), NDTV said, “NDTV has not conducted any survey for #Telangana2023. Please do not spread fake news.” They have also shared a graphic and termed it as fake.
