A video of an engine pulling the Vande Bharat Express is trending on the micro blogging site, Twitter. Many users are calling the Vande Bharat a failure and taunting the government.

Krishna Allavaru, joint secretary of the All India Congress Committee, sharing the viral video wrote, “The history of 70 years drags the lies of the last 9 years.”

Besides, the Wire journalist and the serial fake news peddler, Ravi Nair, on his Twitter account shared the same viral video. Taking political jibe at the Bharat Janata Party (BJP), he attempted to portray that Vande Bharat is having insufficient capacity and hence it needs another engine to operate.

Another Twitter handle, @/ShristiChaterj1, who seemed to be a Congress supporter from her Twitter feed, sharing the video claimed that an engine is required to haul the Vande Bharat train.

Fact Check

In the viral video, we spotted a watermark @/railwala_18, and visited the profile on Instagram. On his profile, we came across a clarification video posted by the user on his story.

In the beginning of the video, the user who shared the viral video is saying that a few days ago he shared a video of a double locomotive engine leading Vande Bharat Express. Many viewers of the video started commenting that Vande Bharat is being stolen, its brakes have failed or it is not able to function due to inadequate capacity. But nothing of that sort had happened.

He further explaining added that in the viral video, process of locomotive engine pulling the Vande Bharat is known as transit process, refers to the method by which a specific locomotive is assigned to a newly manufactured train in order to assist it in reaching its destination. In the viral video the locomotive engine is taking Vande Bharat from Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction towards Patna.

Further, on the YouTube, we did the keyword search, and came across a video by the user named Kaustubham Sharma. The video is of transition process of the Vande Bharat Express and dates back to 4 years ago.

According to the description of the video, the second Vande Bharat rake was exported from ICF Chennai to New Delhi. Although the Vande Bharat is capable of operating without an engine, it needed an engine to get there because this rake needs to go through testing before certification. Since, it did not have certification, it was not allowed to operate on its own.

Additionally, we found a response from the East Central Railway, under Shristi Chatterjee, confirming that the empty coaching rake was headed for commissioning, a process to ensure that all systems and equipment of the trains that are built and installed are running correctly and without any hindrance.

Hence, considering all the mentioned points, the video shared by the Twitter users is misleading. The Vande Bharat Express is being pulled by a locomotive engine since it was part of the transition process and not because it did not have enough capacity to operate on its own.
