The Congress MPs and the members of the other opposition party protested during the first week of the monsoon session in parliament over rising inflation and the good and services tax (GST). The INC members were suspended from Lok Sabha for entire monsoon session on July 25, 2022.

On July 25, 2022, K.C Venu Gopal, member of the parliament, made a tweet condemning the suspension of four Congress MPs Manickam Tagore, Ramya Haridas, Jothimani and TN Prathapan. In his tweet his professed that the Congress MPs were peacefully protesting inside the parliament premises.

Fact Check

While digging into the matter, we learned that the Lok Sabha speaker, Om Prakash Birla, had warned the Congress MPs not to demonstrate within the parliament before they were suspended for entire monsoon session. On July 15, 2022, protest and strikes were banned inside the parliament premises.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the opposition have been protesting since the last week against the good and services tax (GST) and growing inflation. Om Prakash Birla issued a last warning to the protesters on July 25 on the sixth day of the session of the parliament, stating, “This is a temple of democracy.”

The protesters were raising slogans while waving placards inside the parliament house. With their protest, they disrupted the session. Even when Om Prakash Birla assured them that the government is ready to negotiate with them and that the session will resume after 3 p.m. if they could subside with the turbulence, the protestors continued to cause mayhem. The Lok Sabha however had to suspend the demonstrators.

Here is the video.

Hence, the claim made by K.C Venu Gopal that the Congress MPs were peacefully carrying out a protest inside the parliament is false. In the video, the protestors can be seen disrupting the session and creating a havoc.
