Yesterday on July 15, 2022, the NDTV took its twitter account and made a tweet about the circular issued by the Rajya Sabha prohibiting “Dharna and protest in parliament premises.” As usual NDTV tried to mislead its reader by calling no protest circular as “New rule.”

The attempt by left wing media to mislead people doesn’t stop here. The Scroll.in news outlet was very eager to publish on its website that the Rajya Sabha secretariat has a “new rule” that states that the parliament cannot be used for strikes or other forms of protest.

Jairam Ramesh, an Indian economist and historian affiliated with Indian National Congress also made a tweet about the same. He shared a copy of an order and tweeted “Vishguru’s latest salvo- d(h)arna mana hai” indirectly taking a jab at PM Narendra Modi.

Aadesh Rawal, a writer and columnist based in Delhi, tweeted that “democratic elected MPs by the people of the country can no longer take out a dharna in parliament premises” without getting into facts from the past.

What we found in our research

Our research indicates that this is not the first time the Parliament has issued such directive. The same circular was issued in 2009 by the congress led UPA government.

The parliamentary bulletin once again issued the same circular in 2013, 2014, and 2021 to forbid dharna, strikes, and fasts in order to perform religious ceremonies.

The circular issued in 2013 forbids dharna, strike or fast in parliament premises
Parliamentary bulletin issued in 2014
Circular issued in 2021 prohibiting any form of protest in parliament premises

Om Birla, the speaker of the Lok Sabha, yesterday on 15 July 2022, responded to the allegations made by the opposition and the left-wing media by breaking his silence and stating that “no allegations should be made without getting into facts.”

Additionally, he also made clear that similar circulars had previously been issued.

Hence, after carrying out the research it is evident that the opposition parties and left media intentionally or unintentionally tried to mislead the people and put the ruling party in a bad light.
