On August 3, 2022, an Aam Aadmi Party leader, Gulab Singh, said in his tweet that how people have started believing in Kejriwal’s assurances while still remembering the unfulfilled promise of PM Modi to credit each Indian 15 lakh.

Many opposition party officials, including Rahul Gandhi and Isudan Gadhvi of the AAP party, have slammed PM Modi in the past over his “15 lakh promise.”

Moreover, as per the report by India Today, an advocate named HK Singh filed a case against both PM Modi and Amit Shah in the Ranchi High Court on February, 2020, accusing them of cheating the public by promising to deposit Rs 15 lakh in each person’s bank account if they win the election. The complaint was made in accordance with sections 123(b) of the Representation of the People Act and sections 415 (cheating) and 420 (dishonesty) of the Indian Penal Code.

Fact Check

We had to look through the archives from the past to see whether PM Modi had promised to deposit 15 lakh into each Indian’s bank account. A few video clips from the 2014 Lok Sabha election rallies served as the basis for our team’s investigation.

While conducting research, we found a video from the November, 2013, rally at Kanker (Chhattisgarh). The entirety of the video tells a different story contrary to what oppositions have been claiming for years. PM Modi in his speech slamming the blunders of the then led UPA Government said, “If, just once, the money that these fraudsters have stowed away in foreign banks, even if we bring it back, every poor Indian would receive Rs 15 to Rs 20 lakh. There is plenty of cash.” It is quite obvious from the video that he was trying to give an estimate of how big the figure is. Furthermore, the BJP’s election manifesto for 2014 makes no mention of the promise to credit every Indian with Rs 15 lakh.

From 18:00 minute onwards.

Nowhere in the speech did PM Modi make the promise to credit everyone with Rs 15 lakh. Later, Amit Shah clarified that it was just a jumla. The opposition politicians misconstrued PM Modi’s words, and the BJP government has endured years of criticism.
