On July 23, 2022, Sathish Reddy, a member of Telangana Rashtra Samiti, shared a video of outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind’s farewell ceremony. He deliberately released a cropped video showing that PM Modi did not greet the retiring President Ram Nath Kovind with sarcastic comment “When ‘Photograph’ more important than the outgoing President” and tried to manipulate the viewer.

On July 24, 2022, Sanjay Singh, an Aam Aadmi Party member shared a same edited video. He attempted to convince the viewer that the outgoing President Ram Nath had to endure humiliation during the farewell ceremony.

Many twitter users like Shyam Meera Singh, Dr Dipin Yadav and Virendra Chaudhary joined the bandwagon and shared the video to manipulate and deceive their audience.

The video was posted on several social media platforms. A misleading video was put on the Pratibimba Live Facebook page, an Assamese news outlet with a three lakh-strong viewership.

Fact Check

When the edited video started spreading throughout the social media platform many Twitter users slammed Sathish Reddy and Sanjay Singh for posting bogus videos to deceive everyone.

After digging into the matter, we found out that the original video represents a different story. It is evident from the original video that PM Modi greeted the outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind.

Therefore, it is clear from the research that the cropped video disseminated by the BJP opposition was an attempt to mislead the public and harm PM Modi’s image.
