Dainik Bhaskar Survey Claiming Modi’s Influence Has Faded is Misleading, Viral Cutting is Edited

A newspaper cutting circulating on X (formerly Twitter) is related to a claim of a survey conducted by Dainik Bhaskar. The cutting displays the front page of Bhopal edition with a lead story suggesting that Bhaskar has conducted a Nielsen-Dainik Bhaskar survey. According to the viral clip, the survey shows that the India Alliance will be winning the largest majority, while Modi’s influence is reportedly declining in BJP ruled states.

The image of the alleged survey by Dainik Bhaskar was propagated by Spirit of Congress (Archived link), Congress supporter Vijay Thottathil (Archived link), Lakshmi Nair of INC (Archived link), left journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta (Archived link) user Surya Born to Win (Archived link).

Fact Check

The date on the picture of the survey going viral is 13 April 2024 and it was the Bhopal edition. So we checked the Bhopal edition of April 13 on Dainik Bhaskar website. It was found that the lead story of the e-paper was different from what was being claimed. There was no news of any survey conducted. The lead story was on Bhopal city experiencing the heaviest rainfall in the month of April for the first time in the last 150 years.

Moreover, we found that the tweet by LP Pant, editor of Dainik Bhaskar group. In his tweet he clarified that Dainik Bhaskar has not conducted any survey. Responding to Paranjoy’s claim, he wrote, “Sir, Dainik Bhaskar has not conducted any such survey. A fake survey has been conducted using Bhaskar’s masthead. You should also check its authenticity before sharing it. Dainik Bhaskar will take legal action on your post.”

Conclusion: The newspaper cutting going viral is edited and fake. There is no such news about the survey in the Bhopal edition of 13 April. Moreover, the editor of Dainik Bhaskar also clarified that the viral cutting is edited.
