A video is becoming fiercely viral on social media, which has been shared with the claim that the woman offered Namaz in the hospital in Prayagraj and the police registered an FIR against her.
The viral video was shared by many prominent Twitter handles like News 24, Bolta Uttar Pradesh, Swam Meera Singh, Ashok Swain, and AIMIM party Chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
Owaisi targeted the UP Police over the alleged action. He said in the tweet, “What is the crime in this if admitted to the hospital, taking care of your relative, in some corner, without hurting anyone, praying according to your religion? Does the UP Police have no other work? Wherever prayers are offered, FIRs are registered against the worshippers.”
Fact Check
Our team conducted research to verify if the claim made by few Twitter users is true. In our research, through keyword search using FIR registered against woman offering namaz in Prayagraj hospital, we came across a report by Indian Express. Through Indian Express article, we got to know that the alleged incident is indeed from Prayagraj hospital. The report stated the woman in the viral video is Sabiha. She had arrived on Thursday to visit a patient who was being treated for dengue, but she unexpectedly began offering namaz there in the afternoon.
Our further research led us to the Prayagraj Police statement. According to the statement, the woman in the viral video was reportedly praying for the quick recovery of her hospitalized patient without any bad intentions and without interfering with anyone’s work or movement. She did nothing that could be classified as a crime.
The police personnel also made it clear that no FIR had been filed in this case. Additionally, they urged social media users to refrain from disseminating any false information about this case; otherwise, legal action would be taken against them in accordance with the law.
Along with the police clarification, we even tried to know the reaction of the hospital administration. As per the Dainik Jagran report, the superintendent of Bailey Hospital Dr. MK Akhouri clarified on Saturday that no complaint has been made by him or the hospital administration.
We also examined whether a FIR had been filed on the official UP Police app, UP COP, while doing verification at various levels. The FIR submitted using the app at this police station from September 22 to September 26 was examined since Bailey Hospital is under the jurisdiction of Cantt Police Station. We received a total of 5 FIRs over the course of the inquiry, however no FIR was discovered that was filed against the accused, Sahiba.
Hence, in our analysis we found that no FIR has been registered against Sahiba and the claim made by several Twitter users is false. Due to incorrect information, the Prayagraj police received criticism. Before criticizing Prayagraj police, the Twitter users did not even bother to check to see whether the information was accurate.
