Fact Check
In our fact-check research, we searched keywords like “Indian immigrants stealing from graves in Europe.” But we found no media reports sharing anecdotes of such incidents.
Next, we took keyframes from the viral video and performed a reverse image search, which led us to a TikTok post by a Ukrainian account named @djoni_game, on April 27, 2025. Here, we found the same video.

The video has a caption, which upon translation by Google says, “Business in Provody.” The Ukrainian flag is also visible in the video. Furthermore, the names on the graves are written in the Ukrainian alphabet, which is derived from Cyrillic. This suggests that the video is not from Europe, but from Ukraine.
Furthermore, taking clues from the TikTok video, we searched ‘Ukraine Provody’ on Google and found several articles. From these, we came to know about a long-standing tradition in Ukraine for remembering the deceased. This tradition is known as ‘Provody’ or ‘Thomas Sunday,’ and in some parts it is also called ‘Radonitsa.’ It is observed one week after Easter. During this, families visit cemeteries, clean the graves and decorate them with flowers. The make offerings by offering ritual food on the graves. The locals are later allowed to collect the ritual food as part of the tradition.

In conclusion, the video of people taking small bags from graves does not show theft from cemeteries by Indian migrants in Europe. This footage shows a Ukrainian tradition of remembering the dead. During this time, families visit the grave and offer ceremonial food, which can later be collected by the locals.
