Additionally, a Times of India report published on May 4, 2025, stated that playback singer Sonu Nigam faced backlash after an FIR was registered against him for allegedly making hurtful and provocative remarks about the Kannadiga community during a recent music event in Bengaluru.
A video clip from the event, which has gone viral, shows Nigam reportedly saying: “Kannada, Kannada, Kannada — this is exactly why the incident happened in Pahalgam,” referring to the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where 26 tourists were killed.
The Bengaluru police registered the FIR under Sections 351(2), 352(1), and 353 of the Indian Penal Code, which relate to intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, assault, and use of criminal force to deter a public servant.
In response, Sonu Nigam posted a video on Instagram clarifying that his comments were misinterpreted. He stated, “There were only 4–5 goons shouting. Thousands of others were respectful. Please do not generalize the entire Kannadiga community. Kannadigas are very nice people.”
