Months after the Maharashtra Assembly elections, a fresh controversy has emerged. Sub-Inspector Ranjit Kasale has publicly claimed that during the elections, he was deployed at an EVM storage facility where he witnessed the tampering of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in his presence. Kasale further alleged that he was offered Rs 10 lakh to remain silent about the incident. Following these revelations, opposition parties and their leaders have accused the ruling party of EVM manipulation, asserting that this is the reason behind the BJP’s landslide victory in the state. They are now sharing Kasale’s video statement across social media, launching sharp attacks on the Election Commission and the central government.
Congress party claimed, ‘A case of EVM tampering has come to light in Maharashtra, which is very serious. Sub-Inspector Ranjeet Kasle is telling in this video that during the assembly elections, he was on duty at the EVM place, where the EVM was tampered with in front of him. Not only this, Ranjeet Kasle was given Rs 10 lakh to keep his mouth shut. These are very serious allegations. To the extent the Election Commission should have investigated this, on the contrary, the person who exposed it, Ranjeet Kasle, was arrested. Such things keep coming up about EVM tampering and every time the Election Commission shrugs it off. It is very important to investigate such things for fair elections.’
Akhilesh Yadav shared, ‘The disclosure by a police officer in Maharashtra that BJP members had deposited Rs 10 lakh in his account to rig EVMs is a major expose of the massive corruption of the BJP. Those who ask for whom will they earn, they must have got the answer today.’

The report explains that a strict three-layer security system was in place at the strong rooms where EVMs were stored:
1- First Layer (Innermost) – Guards from the Central Security Forces were stationed closest to the EVMs.
2- Second Layer (Periphery of the Building) – Guards from the State Reserve Police Force were posted to secure the surrounding area.
3-Third Layer (Outer Perimeter) – Personnel from the District Police managed the outermost security zone.
This multi-layered setup was deployed as per the Election Commission’s guidelines to ensure foolproof security. Additionally, CCTV cameras were installed for 24×7 surveillance, and all sealing and unsealing of strong rooms were done in the presence of election observers and representatives of political parties.
The report further states that Kasale was not assigned any election duty and was instead working at the Beed Cyber Police Station during the election period. Therefore, he had no access to the strong room or EVMs.
Ranjeet Kasale has a record of making false and defamatory statements online, and he has been arrested in another criminal case. He even admitted in a video that he sometimes makes such claims while under the influence of alcohol. Hence, the Election Officer called the allegations false, baseless, and malicious, meant only to mislead the public and cast doubt on the integrity of the election process.’
A Pune Times Mirror report published on April 18, 2025, stated that suspended police sub-inspector (PSI) Ranjit Kasle, who was wanted in connection with a case, was taken into custody by Beed police early Friday morning from a hotel in Pune’s Swargate area. Kasle had travelled to Pune from Delhi on Thursday and had expressed his intention to surrender to either Pune or Beed police.

Before his arrest, Kasle made serious allegations claiming of a major Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) scam during the Maharashtra assembly elections.
A Hindustan Times report from the same day noted that Kasle had claimed he was offered a contract to eliminate Walmik Karad — a key accused in the murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. Kasle has since been dismissed from service.

The action was taken by the Inspector General of Police of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Range under Article 311 of the Constitution of India. Earlier, Beed police had submitted a proposal recommending his dismissal. Kasle had previously levelled allegations against former Maharashtra cabinet minister Dhananjay Munde and his close aide Walmik Karad. Speaking to reporters at Pune airport the night before his arrest, he repeated his claim that he was asked to eliminate Karad in an encounter.
Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed district was murdered on December 9. Karad is among eight people arrested in the case, which has been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Kasle was already under suspension, and a preliminary inquiry was underway against him. He is also facing a case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for allegedly posting an objectionable comment on social media on April 2. While evading arrest, Kasle continued releasing videos making sensational and unverified claims, which police officials repeatedly dismissed. In one of his last videos, he expressed willingness to surrender. He was eventually detained from a hotel in Beed.
Therefore, the claim made by dismissed sub-inspector Ranjit Kasle that EVMs were tampered with during the Maharashtra assembly elections is baseless. The Election Commission of India has categorically rejected the allegation, clarifying that Kasle was not even on election duty during that time. Kasle is known for making wild and unfounded claims, and his statements appear to be driven by frustration following his dismissal. The Hindustan Times report supports this assessment, stating that Kasle is a habitual liar. He is also facing charges under the SC/ST Act for derogatory remarks.
