On Monday, 24 February, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that the biennial elections would fill five vacancies in the Legislative Councils of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. According to an official ECI release, the terms of 10 MLCs will end on 29 March 2025. With these vacancies, the political spotlight is now on the race among aspirants vying for tickets to contest the elections in both states. Amid this, a graphic image of BJP candidate Chinnamile Anji Reddy has gone viral on X. The image claims that the BJP candidate stated he spent ₹30 crore to secure his MLC ticket through a broker.
Congress leader Pavan Malladi shared, ‘They gave 30 crores to @kishanreddybjp @bandisanjay_bjp @drlaxmanbjp garu. There is a saying in Telugu.. What Srirangam says is the ethics, What I remember is…huts. We should stop reciting the precepts of Sri @BJP4Telangana and start practicing them.’

Fact Check
We began our fact-checking process with a Google search. However, we found no credible reports confirming the veracity of this claim or rumor. Additionally, there is no statement from BJP candidate Chinnamile Anji Reddy where he claimed to have spent ₹30 crore to secure his MLC ticket.
Moreover, the viral graphic cites “Telangananewstodaydailydotcom” as the source. However, we found no such online or offline media outlet by this name.
Further investigation led us to Chinnamile Anji Reddy’s Instagram handle, where he categorically denied the allegations and the statement attributed to him. Three days ago, he posted a rebuttal on Instagram, stating, ‘Congress, which has lost public support, is resorting to cheap propaganda and false accusations out of desperation. The service I have done and the trust people have in me are my true strengths. I strongly condemn the fake news being spread with malicious intent by Congress, which is misleading the public.’
Additionally, we found Chinnamile Anji Reddy’s Facebook page, where he shared glimpses of his public interaction on 20 February. One of the photographs shows him holding a mike—this same image has been used in the viral graphic, falsely attributing the statement to him.
