A 58-second video of the BJP MLA, Lavingji Thakor, from the Radhanpur Assembly Constituency in Gujarat is going viral, showing him sweeping inside a temple complex. In the viral clip, Thakor is first seen dropping garbage on the ground and then sweeping it with a broom.
While sharing this video, it is being claimed that he pretended to clean the temple, but in reality, he first dropped the garbage himself and then acted as if he were sweeping it.
Sharing the video, IND Story wrote, “What is this? He is a BJP member. BJP MLA cleaning, throwing garbage with one hand and cleaning with the other. This is amazing hypocrisy.” (Archived link)

Fact Check
In our fact-check investigation, we extracted keyframes from the video and performed a reverse image search, which led us to the same video on News 18 Gujarati’s YouTube channel. This video was a fact-check report published on January 14, 2024. At that time, similar claims were being made about Lavingji Thakor regarding this video.
In reality, the video is from a cleanliness campaign that took place from January 14 to January 22, 2024, during which various religious sites were cleaned.
The fact-check video clarifies that while Thakor was sweeping, he had already picked up some garbage in his hand. When he started sweeping another area, someone asked him to drop the garbage in one place so that it could be collected along with other waste materials and disposed of in a dustbin.
Further investigation led us to Nirbhay News, which also published a fact check video of the cleanliness drive on January 16, 2024. At the 1:35-minute mark in the video, Thakor can be seen carrying garbage in his hand while sweeping. He then drops the garbage in one place and sweeps all the collected waste together with a broom.
In conclusion, the claim that BJP MLA Lavingji Thakor pretended to clean a temple is misleading. The video is from a cleanliness campaign held in January 2024, and fact-checks confirm that he was genuinely sweeping. The viral clip omits context, creating a false narrative that he pretended to clean the temple.
