A video circulating on social media claims to show a father and daughter who have married each other. In the two-minute clip, the daughter explains that, despite the lack of support for their relationship, they went ahead with the marriage.

The handle Tiger sharing the video wrote, “Those who are defaming Muslims, please tell me which religion these people who are doing Niyog belong to.”

Sona pandit wrote, “The father married the daughter, only such petty blind devotees bring disgrace to Sanatan.”

Banwari Lal asserted, “Do you think what was the right thing for a daughter to do by marrying her own father?”

The video was also shared by several other accounts, including Mulayam Singh Yadav, Ummat Muslim, Lashkar_e_Khaibr_, and Aarfa Shaikh.

Fact Check

In our fact-checking research, we noticed a description briefly appearing in the viral video for a fraction of a second. The description was difficult to decipher as it was overlaid on the video, but we spotted a name “Ankita Karotiya” at the bottom. This detail provide a clue about the video’s source or context.

Taking a hint from there, we searched for “Ankita Karotiya” on various social media platforms. On Facebook, we found the same video uploaded on a channel named Ankita Karotiya 2.0, a digital creator with a substantial following of 315k followers.

In the video, at the time frame of 47 seconds, a description pops up which reads, “This video is purely made for entertainment purposes only. This video has no intention to disrespect or defame based on race, color, ancestry, national origin, ethnic group identification, age, religion, marital or parental status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual, orientation, gender, gender identity or expression.”

This makes it clear that the viral video claiming a daughter married her father is scripted and created for entertainment purposes. Ankita Karotiya’s entire Facebook page contains similar scripted and prank videos.
