After the elections held in Madhya Pradesh on November 17, the Bharatiya Janata Party retained power in the state by winning 163 seats in the 230-member assembly, but the biggest question was who would become the next Chief Minister of the state. Meanwhile, many supporters and admirers were strongly rooting for the continuation of longest serving Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan in the post, the BJP surprised everyone by announcing that 58-year-old Mohan Yadav, MLA from Ujjain South, was elected as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. With this announcement the era of Shivraj Singh Chauhan ended today.
Amidst the announcement, a 14 second video of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan is going viral on the X platform (formerly Twitter), in which he is seen crying. An X user Amock (Archived link), a Congress supporter who is known to frequently spread misinformation on the microblogging site, shared a video and wrote that Modi Shah’s betrayal is bigger than anything.

Fake news peddler Sadaf Afreen (Archived link) wrote, “Shivraj Singh Chauhan had worked very hard to win the elections, but Mohan Yadav took away the fruits of his hard work!”

In the start of our fact check research, we saw the News Tak logo on the top left corner of the video. So, in the next step we went to News Tak’s YouTube page and searched for relevant keywords.
With the help of keywords, we found the same video which was uploaded on their YouTube on July 19, 2019. The description of the video reads, “गोद ली हुई बेटी की मौत पर फफक-फफक कर रो पड़े शिवराज सिंह चौहान” (Shivraj Singh Chauhan wept bitterly over the death of his adopted daughter).
From the date and description of the video it becomes clear that the video has nothing to do with the announcement of the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, we searched keywords on Google to know the complete picture behind the video. According to the report of News Live MP, Shivraj and his wife Sadhna have adopted many daughters in the state and got them married. Shivraj Singh’s one of the adopted daughters Bharti Verma died in Vidisha in the year 2019. Bharti was disabled and her marriage was organized by Shivraj-Sadhana in 2018. When Shivraj got the news of his daughter’s demise in Raipur, he immediately reached Vidisha. Seeing his daughter’s dead body in Vidisha, Shivraj started crying bitterly.
In conclusion, the video showing Shivraj crying is from the year 2019 when his adopted daughter Bharti died. The claim that he is crying in the video because he feels betrayed after BJP announced Mohan Yadav as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh is fake.
