A controversial ten-second video clip recently went viral on social media. In this viral video, Tamil Nadu’s BJP Chief, K Annamalai, is purportedly heard making a striking statement during a public address. According to the video, Annamalai said, “If you have a gun, and the gun has bullets, and Modi orders to shoot, then just shoot and come to us. The BJP will take care of you.” The video quickly gained traction as numerous users shared it, using their platforms to call out and criticize the Tamil Nadu State BJP President for advocating gun violence.

A Pro Dravidian ideology Twitter handle named We Dravidians shared the viral video clip and quote Annamalai’s word from the video, that reads, “If you have a gun & the gun has bullets and Modi orders to shoot, then just shoot and come to us. BJP will take care of you.” This Tweet by We Dravidians suggested that Annamalai was advocating gun violence in his speech.

Another Twitter handle and congress supporter Gautam Kashyap shared the viral clip of Annamalai and questioned, “Why shouldn’t BJP be recognized as an anti-India organization?”

Another propagandist named Abdul Quadir shared the viral clip and made similar claims.

Fact Check

During our investigation, we did a reverse video search of the viral clip to know it’s reality. During this, we stumbled upon a YouTube video from Tnnews24 digital, uploaded on February 21, 2023. This particular video carried the intriguing title, “If you don’t have a gun, you can shoot it.” Astonishingly, this five-minute and fifty-three-second video presented the same visuals as the viral clip, but with a significant twist.

In this extended video, Tamil Nadu’s BJP Chief Annamalai can be heard saying, , “Wish to tell the Army heroes at the border that even if the (State) government is not with you, we are with you. “There are guns with you, there are bullets in those barrels and if there is Modi to issue the orders, you can just take those shots and return. Bharatiya Janata Party will take care of the rest in Tamil Nadu.” His words carried a sense of unity and determination, evoking the spirit of Tamil soldiers serving fearlessly at the border in the Indian army. Annamalai emphasized the importance of the “Indian Army” inscription on the front and how the names of those from Tamil Nadu would proudly appear on the back.

After this, we came across another YouTube video on the NBA 24×7 channel, uploaded on February 21, 2023. This video featured the same visuals and contained the exact clip that had gained viral notoriety. In this video, Annamalai’s words came across in a slightly different manner, revealing the depth of his support for the brave soldiers stationed at the borders of our nation.

Amid the initial frames of this video, the Tamil BJP Chief conveyed a heartfelt message, saying, “Wish to tell the Army heroes at the border that even if the (State) government is not with you, we are with you. You have a gun in your hand, the gun has bullets, there is Modi to give the order, just shoot and come, BJP will take care of the rest in Tamil Nadu.” This statement encapsulated a strong sense of solidarity, emphasizing the unwavering commitment of the BJP to those who serve our country in the Indian Army.

Furthermore, we learned that Annamalai delivered this speech in February of the same year at a protest rally held in Chennai. This rally was organized by BJP’s ex-servicemen wing, serving as a response to the tragic death of an Indian Army soldier, Lance Naik Prabhu, allegedly due to an assault by a DMK councillor.

Apart from this, we stumbled upon a significant tweet by Annamalai himself, posted on February 21, 2023, which added further context to the situation. In this tweet, Annamalai shared poignant pictures from the same protest rally where he said everything that is shown in the viral video.

Accompanying these images, Annamalai wrote, “Along with veterans of the Indian Armed Forces who spent their lives in the service of our nation, brothers & sisters of BJP Tamil Nadu, sat on a one-day fast in solidarity with the bereaving family of Lance Naik Prabhu, who was brutally murdered by a DMK councillor.” This statement encapsulated a profound sense of shared grief and a commitment to stand by the grieving family during their time of immense loss.

Hence, all these points prove that the initial claims, suggesting that the Tamil Nadu BJP Chief, Annamalai, was advocating gun violence, are indeed false. His words were extracted from a more comprehensive speech, where he showed solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces and expressed unwavering support for those who serve our nation.
