In recent times, a video of Shahrukh Pathan, one of the alleged culprits in the Delhi riots, has been circulating on social media. This video portrays him as a figure of significance for the Muslim community, often depicted as a sort of messiah. A Twitter handle by the name of Jannat Jahaan shared the video, emphasizing that Shahrukh Pathan’s alleged crime was merely defending himself and his community during the riots, without causing harm or taking the lives of others. She further added that the rioters are still free and the one who stopped the riots is still inside the jail only because he is a Muslim.
Another Twitter handle named Kashif Arsalaan shared the Shahrukh’s video and depicted him as a shield, who bravely stood for his community during the Delhi riots. According to Kashif Arsalaan’s tweet, Shahrukh’s intervention prevented further casualties, as he seemingly acted as a protective angel sent by Allah.
According to him, if Shahrukh had not stepped forward to shield them, many girls would have been robbed of their dignity, many houses would have been burnt down, many children would have been orphaned, and many women would have become widows.
Kashif Arsalaan’s portrayal seems to elevate Shahrukh to a higher status, portraying him as a divine figure entrusted with safeguarding his people during a harrowing time.
Next, propagandist Mohammad Tanvir also shared the video of Shahrukh Pathan and portrayed him as a figure of self-defense, courageously standing up to protect his sisters and fellow community members during the riots. Tanvir’s post asserts that Shahrukh did not resort to taking lives but instead chased away the mob that threatened the Muslim community, ultimately saving many innocent lives and preserving their properties. Tanvir further said that despite not causing any fatalities, Shahrukh still finds himself behind bars.
Apart from this, Islamist propagandist Ali Sohrab shared the video of Shahrukh Pathan and presented him as a symbol of bravery and defiance. Sohrab’s words depict Shahrukh as a lone figure standing fearlessly against what he labels as “Hindu terrorists,” forcing them to retreat during riots. According to Sohrab, Shahrukh’s actions prevented his locality from descending into a situation akin to the infamous Naroda Patiya incident in Gujarat.
Ali Sohrab describes Shahrukh Pathan as a hero, portrying him as the symbol of of pride and inspiration within the Muslim community. He labels them as the “Makruz” of Shahrukh Pathan, emphasizing the impact of his actions on countless Muslim youths who view him as a role model and source of strength.

The investigation into Shahrukh Pathan’s involvement in the Delhi riots revealed some serious charges against him, as highlighted in a report by Live Law. The incident in question occurred on 24th February 2020, during clashes between two communities at 66 Foota Road, Jafrabad. According to the police, there was heavy stone-pelting from both sides during the unrest.
One of the cases against Shahrukh Pathan pertains to a firing incident that took place on the same day. A viral video showed him firing at police officials in uniform in the area of Jafrabad. After dispersing the crowd, three empty cartridges were found at the scene. Following the incident, Head Constable Deepak Dahiya, who had bravely faced rioters, identified Shahrukh Pathan as the person who fired shots.
Deepak Dahiya’s statement revealed that he was deployed in the area due to the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. He recounted that a large unauthorized crowd had gathered, carrying stones, bottles, and pistols, engaging in stone-pelting. Shahrukh Pathan, allegedly armed with a pistol, approached Dahiya and fired rounds towards the crowd and the police officer.
During the investigation into the incident involving Shahrukh Pathan’s firing during the Delhi riots, journalist Saurabh Trivedi played a significant role. Saurabh Trivedi, a Senior Reporter from The Hindu newspaper, recorded a video capturing the moment when Shahrukh Pathan was allegedly firing at the police and the public. He also identified accused Shahrukh Pathan.
The investigation continued as Shahrukh Pathan became an absconding suspect. However, the police received a tip-off and arrested him in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, where he was allegedly attempting to change his hideout. During interrogation, Shahrukh Pathan disclosed the location of the illegal pistol and two live rounds, which were subsequently recovered from a pigeon’s cage on the roof of his house.
After this, we came across a court order from 4th February 2021 on Live Law in which a significant order in the case of Shahrukh Pathan came to light. Judge Sh. Amitabh Rawat, presiding over the matter, refused the bail plea put forth by Shahrukh Khan’s legal team. The decision was based on the gravity of the offense and the serious allegations against the accused, which were deemed quite grave by the court.
In addition to the weight of the charges, the court also took into account Shahrukh Pathan’s conduct, which seemingly did not meet the criteria for granting bail. Judge Rawat referenced the “triple test” for granting bail, which requires a consideration of the likelihood of the accused fleeing from justice, tampering with evidence, or influencing witnesses. Based on the circumstances and evidence presented, the court determined that Shahrukh’s conduct did not satisfy these criteria.
Hence, all these points indeed paint a different picture of Shahrukh Pathan than the one initially propagated by certain individuals. In reality, Shahrukh Pathan is a criminal and stands accused of firing at the public and attempting to shoot a police official during the Delhi riots. The court’s refusal to grant bail further underscores the gravity of the charges against him.
