Fact Check

We conducted a keyword search and found several news reports on the incident. One of the reports we examined was published by India Today on February 21, 2023, and did not mention the identity of the accused.

Similarly, a tweet by ANI from February 20, 2023, about the same Incident also did not identify the accused as an army man.

Apart from this, the Southern Command Indian Army’s official Twitter handle also responded to the reports claiming that an army man had been arrested and called them “misleading.” In their tweet, they stated that “NO Army man has been arrested” as mentioned in the article in the Times of India, Pune & Hyderabad Edition of 21 February 2023.

Therefore, based on our Fact-Check, there is no evidence to support the claim that the individual who made the hoax bomb call at Hyderabad airport on February 21, 2023, was a member of the military service. The Southern Command Indian Army has explicitly denied the claim that an army man was involved in the incident. Moreover, other news reports do not mention the accused’s identity.

Thus, the claims of The Times of India and Independent that the accused was an army man are completely misleading.

In conclusion, media outlets must exercise caution when reporting on sensitive incidents. Moreover, they must ensure that their reporting is based on verified information and factual evidence. It is crucial to avoid perpetuating misinformation or inaccurate claims, which can have serious consequences for public safety and security.
