Propagandists on social media mostly thrive on fake news to gain outrageous reach. Besides, it becomes more easier for them to sit in a foreign country to propagate fake news without any scrutiny and evade law of the land. One such propagandist is Ashok Swain, often known for his bias and Hindu phobia, who tweeted a video and wrote, “A Dalit youth is being assaulted by upper-caste Hindu supremacists in Vikarabad, India. Modi rule is Mob rule!” This tweet has 4000 retweets and 7000 likes so far.
Another Twitter user Ahmed Khabeer who works in Jamia Times shared the same video and wrote “A 26-year-old Dalit youth was beaten up by Shiva devotees in the presence of policemen. The incident happened in Devanoor village of Vikarabad district in Telangana”.
News having “Dalits” as a keyword triggers greater outrage, so our team decided to Fact check the claim.

Fact check
Team Only Fact started their research using keywords, but we could not find any detail in mainstream media. It’s indeed shocking that such caste-centric news didn’t make it to the prime-time debate. So, we filtered our search using the village name of Devanoor and found a report in regional media.
According to ABN News, the 26-year-old guy who is shown as a victim in the video first attacked a person named Shiva Swamy for wearing a Shiva mala. The villagers came in support of Shiva and held a protest in front of the police station. The police have registered the case against the 26-year-old youth. We also searched for news using Yalala Police Station and Devanoor village and we found few tweets of locals as well about the incident.
According to a local Twitter user, Sunil Veer, this is a personal quarrel and cases have been registered on both sides; however, Shiva Swamy getting beaten by the victim’s side is recorded on the police station’s CCTV footage.
Another Twitter user shared the same video, stating the Shiva Swamy was first harassed by a 26-year-old atheist during the Dakshina Ceremony.
Hence, after analyzing all the aspects and sources from the locals we can conclude that caste has nothing to do with this quarrel. Thus, it means that it is a personal dispute shared with fake claims.
