A Twitter user with the handles Anamika Gautam BSP, Bhim Army Bharat Ekta Mission, Nisha Damor, Sadiq Bhai and Ayesha tweeted a video from a tournament in which it can be seen that the bodybuilder kicks the prize after he was asked to go on the other side of the stage. The Twitter users who tweeted this video made the claim that the bodybuilder won the prize but was ordered to stand in the corner of the stage because he belonged to the SC.

Fact Check

After watching the viral video, our team spotted “We are IBFF” inscribed near the bottom of the stage. We began our research with a keyword search for “IBFF competition,” which led us to a True Scoop story.

The footage, according to the report, is from Bangladesh, not India. Jahid Hasan Shuvo, the man in the viral video, competed in the BABF National Body Building Championship. Shuvo was angry during the competition when it was announced that he had won second place. Everything was OK until he stepped on stage and accepted a medal. Shuvo lost his cool as he exited the stage, tossing the trophy into the air and then kicking it in front of everyone. As a result, the Bangladesh Bodybuilding Federation, in accordance with the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness, issued him a lifelong ban on December 25, 2022.

Shuvo later apologized for his actions, saying, “This was a slap in the face to corruption. Any form of corruption anywhere in our nation. Even a child could detect the physical difference between myself and the winner. However, I would like to apologize for my reply since, without context, it appears to be inappropriate for a sportsperson to do so.”

Further, in order to re-verify the True Scoop report and ensure that the video is indeed from Bangladesh, our team looked through a few Bangladeshi media outlets. According to the Dhaka Tribune, the incident occurred in Bangladesh, and the bodybuilder protested against the corruption that took place during the tournament.

Taking above reports as cue our team with the keyword search ‘IBFF Bangladesh’ on YouTube found a video uploaded by Channel 24, Bangladeshi news channel, of a press conference held by the Bangladesh Bodybuilding Federation addressing the incident. In the start of video itself, we can see Bangladesh Bodybuilding Federation written in the background. In the press conference video, from 16 minutes 28 second onwards we can see the viral visual where body builder is kicking prize.

The claim that the viral video is from India and that the man in the video belongs to the SC who suffered casteism in the tournament is completely misleading. In fact, fake news peddler Sadiq Bhai himself admitted in the comments section of his tweet that the video was from Bangladesh, but he did not rectify his mistake nor deleted his tweet.
