A video that shows a few people, some of whom are wearing police uniforms, abusing a man who has been restrained on the floor has garnered a lot of attention on social media platforms. Numerous people have shared the video, denouncing the alleged police violence and asserting that it depicts an actual incident of such abuse. Among those who shared the video is a Twitter user with the handle @The_Iram, who called for decisive measures against the involved officers. The user wrote, “Don’t know where the video is from, but strict action should be taken against these brutal policemen, the government has filled so much hatred that people have come down to brutality.”
In addition to being circulated on Twitter, the video has also found its way to YouTube, where individuals are drawing attention to the alleged police brutality depicted in the viral video. One user wrote, “An innocent poor man is brutally beaten. A prompt action should be take.” Another user wrote that after a vicious assault, the victim’s nails were forcibly extracted.
We ran a reverse image search on the video using the InVid tool. By using the different keyframes that the InVid extracted from the video, we located the exact video (Archive link) that Vipin Pandey Entertainment production, having 300 subscribers, had initially published to YouTube. The video is titled “dosti ki saja” (Punishment for friendship) and lasts for 11 minutes and 57 seconds.
No, the video is scripted. In our fact-check we found that the viral video was created, performed, and posted by the Vipin Pandey Entertainment Production channel; it does not shows actual torture committed by police personnel.
The video’s description included a named of individuals involved for crafting the content, including producers, actors, and writers. Additionally, it featured a Hindi text that can be translated as follows: “Delhi Sakshi murder case: Depicting the fatal incident of a 16-year-old witness being attacked with a knife and stone in Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy region. We have endeavored to convey this message through the video, emphasizing the need to foster a connection with our children, encouraging them to confide in us.”
Apart from that, our examination extended to the channel’s additional content, revealing a consistent pattern of posting scripted and dramatized videos. Hence, the claims made by the social media users are misleading.
