As the upcoming general election draws near, political parties have intensified their campaign efforts. While the ruling party presents a promising vision for the future, opposition parties are resorting to outdated communist ideologies that have been previously rejected. Lacking innovation, supporters of the opposition are flooding social media with misinformation in an attempt to sway uninformed voters. One trending example is a video circulating widely on social media, depicting an individual being assaulted by a group of people. The video is being shared with the claim that BJP workers are being attacked by the public in Dwarka, Gujarat.
Serial fake news peddler Manish Kumar Advocate tweeted, ‘In Dwarka, Gujarat, people who were campaigning for the BJP were brutally beaten up by the public. I strongly condemn this. Just think, this is the situation in Gujarat and Modi ji talks big.’
Congress supporter Prahlad Dalwadi tweeted, ‘Modi: My Gujarat is killing Santro. People campaigning for BJP in Dwarka, Gujarat were brutally beaten up by the public. I strongly condemn this. Just think, this is the situation in Gujarat and Mogli ji talks big.’
Islamist Tanveer Rangrez tweeted, ‘People campaigning for BJP in Dwarka, Gujarat were brutally beaten up by the public. Just imagine, this is the condition in Gujarat, Modiji.’
Rajendra Vishwakarma wrote, ‘Trends have started coming in from Gujarat Dwarka as well – EVM Maa, now the boat is in your hands only!’
Satyapal Arora and Rajkumar Sharma also shared the same video on Twitter with a similar assertion.

Our investigation started with a close examination of the viral video, revealing questionable aspects such as the language spoken by individuals in the video being Bengali and the presence of Bengali signage on loudspeakers and billboards at a petrol pump. Upon confirming that the video originated from West Bengal, we proceeded to conduct a reverse image search. This led us to a tweet by opposition leader and BJP MLA Shubhendu Adhikari from the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
In a tweet dated August 6, 2022, BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari mentioned an incident where TMC MLA Asit Mazumdar from Chinsurah allegedly assaulted a BJP worker in Hooghly. Shubhendu Adhikari tweeted, ‘Yesterday Asit Mazumdar; TMC MLA from Chinsurah; Hooghly, thrashed a BJP Karyakarta for campaigning democratically. Those who questioned India_NHRC’s post poll violence report, citing ‘Law of ruler, not Rule of law’ in WB haven’t seen MamataOfficial’s GOONDA Raaj.’
Furthermore, media reports, such as one from Times Now, corroborated the incident, stating that a controversy unfolded during a BJP rally in the Khadinnan area of Chinsurah, Hooghly district. BJP workers claimed that TMC MLA Asit Mazumdar and his supporters attacked rally attendees without provocation.
In conclusion, it is evident that the claim of BJP workers being assaulted during election campaigning in Dwarka, Gujarat, is false. The viral video actually captures an incident from West Bengal in August 2022, where TMC MLA Asit Mazumdar and his supporters were accused of assaulting BJP workers.
