Terror Angle in 770 Kg of Explosives Discovered From RSS Leader’s Home is Misleading

Recently, a claim about 770 kg of explosives seized from the house of an RSS leader in Panur is going viral on X (formerly Twitter). It is being claimed that the Kolabolare police have seized explosives kept in the houses of local RSS leader Vadakkil Pramod and his cousin Vadakkil Shantha. Many users have shared this claim and inserted the terror angle here by stating that no NSA/UAPA will be applicable here as it only applies to Muslims.

Congress Kerala wrote, “770 Kg of explosives seized from houses of RSS local leader Vadakkeil Pramod & his cousin Vadakkeil Shanta by Kerala Police. BJP men have often been caught in similar incidents of spreading terror and conspiring against the state. What was the real aim of BJP behind the latest effort to amass such heavy explosives? Was it to terrorize and create political and communal tensions before the elections? Will @NIA_India take over the investigation?”

Propagandist user Tanmay wrote, “RSS-terrorist Outfit.” He further wrote, “770 kg explosives seized from RSS leader’s house in Panoor, #BJP regional leader absconding.”

Islamist user Harun Khan wrote, “770 KG of Explosives seized from RSS leader’s house in Panur. Kolavallore police seized explosives stored in houses of RSS local leader Vadakkeil Pramod & his cousin Vadakkeil Shanta. Regional leader Pramod absconding. NSA/UAPA will not applied bcz it is only for Muslims.”

Vijay Thottathil wrote, “Headline says 770kg explosives seized from the house of RSS leader Pramod and his relative at Panoor, Kannur in Kerala. Since then the so called leader is underground and police is on hunt!I think plan was to bomb entire Kannur city?? Terrorist should be arrested and punished soon.”

Another user Piyush Manush wrote, “Only 770 kilos of explosives seized from one and only RSS. They were getting ready for a war with china, Kerala police misunderstood it was for terrorist attack’s across India !!! Ain’t it da Sonki Monki’s !!”

Moreover user Gururan Anjan wrote, “KERALA: TERR0R ACT IN Kannuru, KERALA.! 770 Kilograms explosives seized from RSS leader Vadakkeil Pramod and his cousin Shanta’s house in Kannur— Pramod is #Absconding.! Why the RSS leaders are keeping their explosives like TERRORISTS at home? #RSSTERRORIST”

Fact check

At the start of our research, we searched relevant keywords on Google and came across some media reports. These media reports suggest that the Kerala Police launched a major operation led by Kolavallor Police inspector Sumeet Kumar and SI Sobin, and raided the residence of a local RSS leader, Vadakayil Pramod, and his relative, Vadakayil Shanta, at Poyilur in Kannur district.

In the operation, the 770 kg of firecrackers were discovered at the residence of the RSS leader and his relative. Investigations conducted by the police reveal that the firecrackers were meant for illegal distribution.

Further, the Only Fact team contacted the Kolavallor Police who informed that the accused were planning to illegally distribute 770 kg of firecrackers during the upcoming Vishu festival in Kerala.

Stockpiles of firecrackers were stockpiled in anticipation of the upcoming Vishu festival which will fall on April 14, 2023, marking the beginning of the Malayali New Year and is celebrated with great enthusiasm by Malayalis in the state of Kerala.

Conclusion: The notion of terrorism in this context is misleading, as the firecrackers were intended for use in firecrackers during the Vishu festival.
