On April 12, 2023, the National Student’s Union of India (NSUI), Rajasthan, shared a video on their official Twitter handle, claiming that 41% of voters in Rajasthan want to see Ashok Gehlot as their Chief Minister in the upcoming state assembly elections. The video, which was credited to ABP News, also showed that 24% of voters wanted to see Vasundhara Raje in the position, while 18% favored Sachin Pilot. NSUI Rajasthan accompanied the video with a tweet stating that Ashok Gehlot is Rajasthan’s first choice for Chief Minister.

Apart from this, many Congress workers like Muniram Kholwad and Pradeep Sharma also retweeted this tweet of NSUI Rajasthan.

Cleary, NSUI Rajasthan via this tweet with the ABP News video is trying to portray that the opinion poll is recent and conducted specifically for the 2023 Rajasthan assembly elections.

So, is it true that the video of the opinion poll shared by the NSUI Rajasthan is recently conducted for the 2023 Rajasthan assembly elections? Let’s Fact Check.

Fact Check

During our investigation into the authenticity of the ABP News video shared by NSUI Rajasthan, we conducted a keyword search using the terms “ABP opinion poll showing CM Gehlot as emerging choice.” Our search led us to a video on the official ABP NEWS YouTube channel. However, upon viewing the video, we were shocked to discover that it was more than four years old. The video was posted on the ABP News Youtube channel on August 13, 2018.

Interestingly, the video is exactly the same as the one shared by NSUI Rajasthan. However, the first six seconds were intentionally trimmed to make it appear as a recent opinion poll. The original ABP News video was actually conducted before the 2018 Rajasthan assembly elections when Vasundhara Raje of the BJP was the Chief Minister. Moreover, the title of the video also states, “Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot emerges as first choice for CM in Rajasthan.” which shows that the video is not recent.

Now, the first 6 seconds of the video were deliberately cropped to hide the fact that the opinion poll was conducted before the 2018 Rajasthan assembly elections. In the original video, the digital screen of ABP News shows “The Biggest Opinion Poll of the Elections before 2019” for the first two seconds. After this the screen changes to display the poll results. This initial screen further confirms that the poll was conducted before the 2018 assembly elections of Rajasthan. This also supports the evidence that the NSUI Rajasthan’s claim of a recent opinion poll is false.

So, all these points prove that the claim by NSUI Rajasthan that the Opinion Poll video by ABP News is recent is completely false and misleading.
