On April 14, 2023, a picture went viral on social media showing Congress MLA Vijaylaxmi Sadho apparently being strangled. The image quickly gained traction, with Propagandist journalist Sadaf Afreen sharing it along with a claim that Sadho had been thrown into a car by police while protesting for a medical college in Madhya Pradesh. Afreen further accused the police of holding Sadho by the neck, calling the behavior “unfortunate” and condemning those in power who “talk about women’s respect day and night.
Furthermore, the official Twitter handle of the Madhya Pradesh Congress shared the viral pictures, alleging that Sadho had been strangled by a female policeman in Maheshwar and calling out Chief Minister Shivraj for his alleged involvement.
Moreover, Congress MLA Vijaylaxmi Sadho herself express her outrage on Twitter. In a tweet posted on the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, a Dalit rights icon, Vijaylaxmi accused the Shivraj government of the state of “strangling a Dalit’s daughter ‘Ladli Bahna'” for daring to raise her voice in support of the marginalized. Besides, She also claimed that democracy was being choked by those in power who sought to silence voices of dissent.
Apart from this Congress MLA Jitendra Patwari, National General Secretary of Indian Youth Congress Pratibha Raghuwanshi, and another Propaganda Journalist Piyush Babele also made similar claims.

During our investigation, we stumbled upon a video posted by MP Junction on Twitter, which provided a different perspective on what really happened. Upon watching the full video, we were surprised to find that the reality was completely different from the above claims.
At the 15-second time frame of the video, we can see it’s Vijaylaxmi Sadho’s own hand that is close to her neck.
Also, at the 17-second mark of the video, a Woman Police official can be seen holding Vijaylaxmi Sadho’s wrist, while Sadho’s own hand is around her own neck.
Furthermore, at the 20-second mark of the video, we can clearly see Vijaylaxmi Sadho grabbing her neck with her hand.
So, all these points concluded that the claims made in the viral posts regarding the alleged strangulation of Congress MLA Vijaylaxmi Sadho by the police are unsubstantiated. Moreover, the video footage clearly shows that Sadho herself was holding her neck and that a police officer was merely holding her wrist.
