No, the Christian occupants arrested by the Kanpur Police were not innocent

On January 6, 2023, Anti-Hindu news outlets Hindutva Watch and Hate Detector shared a video on their Twitter handle that stirred up controversy among religious communities. The video showed police raiding a house and questioning some Christians, while these outlets accused members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) of forcibly entering the house and accusing the Christian occupants of forced religious conversions. As a result, six people were taken into police custody.

Moreover, the incident was portrayed as an attack on innocent Christians, sparking outrage on social media.

During our investigation, we came across a report by the Times of India which shed new light on the incident. According to the report, the DCP East, Ravindra Kumar, stated that the police received a tip-off about an alleged forceful conversion event taking place in a building located in Shyam Nagar, Chakeri.

Besides, acting on this information, the police took action and arrested two individuals in connection with the incident.

Moreover, during the course of the investigation, the police recovered laptops, computers, and a large amount of propaganda materials related to religious conversion from the house. The police also identified four other individuals and are currently probing their funding connection. The arrested accused will be taken on remand for further interrogation.

Moreover, here is the official statement of DCP East Ravindra Kumar posted by the official Twitter handle of Police Commissionerate Kanpur Nagar regarding the whole incident.

Hence all these points prove that the claims made by Hindutva Watch and Hate Detector regarding the incident are false. The video and the info shared by these outlets regarding the incident were presented in a manner that misrepresented the actual events that took place. However, the official statement released by the Police Commissionerate Kanpur Nagar provides a clear and accurate account of the incident, which involved the police taking action against individuals suspected of engaging in forceful religious conversion activities.

Moreover, It is also important to note that spreading false information and misleading narratives can lead to polarization and tension within society. Therefore, it is our responsibility to ensure that the information we consume and share is accurate, unbiased, and backed by reliable sources.
