We began our research with a YouTube keyword search. We discovered the complete video on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s YouTube channel. The video that has gone viral on microblogging site is from Prime Minister Modi’s three-day tour to China in 2015.

Moreover, we found that the viral video is pulled out of context after watching the complete 57 minutes video. The edited version is being circulated on Twitter.

BJP YouTube channel

While addressing the Indian community in Shanghai, in the video from 50:32 minutes, PM Modi is heard saying, “Ek saal ke bhitar chahe world bank ho, IMF ho, duniya ki koi bhi rating agencies ho, ek swar se duniya ne kya kaha hai Bharat ka 7% se bhi jyaada growth hua hai aur India aaj vishwa ka sabse tez gati se aage badhne wala desh hai. Ek saal ke bhitar (chhodo yar, doob gaye, kuch hoga nahi, arey bhagwan bachaye, pata nahi pichhle janam mein kya paap kiye jo hum Hindustan mein paida hue) yahi jo manubhav tha usme aaj duniya keh rahi hai vishwa ke sabse tez gati se aage badhne wala koi desh hai to wo, us desh ka naam Hindustan hai.”

English Translation- “Within a year, whether it is the World Bank, IMF, or any global rating agencies, the consensus has been that India’s growth has exceeded 7%, and India is today the fastest-growing country in the world. Within a year (forget about it, people said it was doomed, nothing would come of it, oh God save us, who knows what sins we committed in our previous birth that we were born in India), this was the sentiment. But today, the world says that if there is any country advancing the fastest, it is India.”

PM Modi did not disrespect India by expressing regret over his birth here. He was referring to how, one year after the BJP came into power, the World Bank, IMF, and other organizations began to recognize India as the world’s fastest growing country. It has also changed the views of those who previously expressed regret at being born in India.

Hence, the claim that the PM Modi insulted India on the international platform is misleading. Thus, the viral video is cropped to mislead people.
