PM Modi didn't say banging utensils will make Corona go away

On March 14, 2023, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal took a dig at PM Modi during his rally in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Kejriwal emphasized the importance of having an educated Prime Minister and said that anyone can come and fool a less-educated Prime Minister into doing anything.

In his speech Arvind Kejriwal mocked the Prime minister saying just because our Prime Minister is less educated, someone just came and suggested to him during the pandemic that he should order the people of the country to bang utensils as the waves generated from banging utensils will make the coronavirus go away and the Prime Minister made every Indian bang utensils and every countryman did it believing If Prime Minister is saying so then maybe there is some truth to it.

He questioned whether the virus went away due to the banging of utensils as the Prime Minister had suggested.

So is it true that PM Modi during the pandemic said by banging utensils corona will go away? Let’s Fact Check.

During our research, we first did keyword research with the words PM Modi urges to bang utensils. During this, we came across a report by India Today published on March 19, 2020. According to this report, the PM urged every Indian to come out of their houses, stand in the balcony or window at exactly 5 pm on Sunday, March 22, and clap, whistle, or ring to express gratitude towards the people who are working tirelessly to keep them safe in midst of the crisis.

We then did keyword research on Youtube with the words PM Modi says bang utensils. In the meantime, we came across a video posted on Narendra Modi official channel with the title spare your 5 mins to applaud those who are leading the fight against the coronavirus on March 22, 2020. In this video, PM Modi expressed gratitude towards those who are working day and night to fight the pandemic in various roles, such as doctors, nurses, hospital staff, cleaners, airline workers, government workers, police, media officials, railway, bus, auto-rickshaw workers, and delivery workers.

Further in the video, PM Modi acknowledged the high risks that these workers are exposed to while performing their duties but emphasized that their services cannot be said to be ordinary in today’s conditions. Besides, he asked every Indian to thank these workers on March 22, 2022, and suggested that it could be a way to unite every Indian. PM Modi requested that on Sunday, during Janta Curfew at 5 PM, all Indians should stand at the door or balcony of their home or near the window and thank these people by clapping, banging utensils, or ringing bells as a tribute to their selfless service to the country.

Moreover, this video was a way for PM Modi to express his appreciation towards those who are working tirelessly to fight the pandemic and encourage the rest of the country to do the same.

However, nowhere in the video did PM Modi say that banging utensils will make corona go away as claimed by CM Arvind Kejriwal.

So, all these points prove that the claim made by CM Arvind Kejriwal that PM Modi said banging utensils will create waves that will make the corona go away is misleading and false. Moreover, PM Modi only requested everyone to clap and bang utensils in order to thank and pay tribute to all the frontline workers in the pandemic.
