Fact Check

In the first step of our research, we extracted different keyframes from the video and ran a reverse image search. We found several media reports that refute claims that the incident has a caste angle.

According to the article of News18, the incident is 5 months old and is from Jharkhand state. In the video, the person beating the youth has been identified as former BJP MLA Devendra Kunwar and the victim has been identified as Tauseef Ansari, resident of Sadhudih village of Dumka. The victim Tauseef was caught by the villagers while making a video of women taking bath. The villagers complained to the panchayat and hauled Tauseef to the panchayat. Taking law and order into his own hands, Kunvar got Tauseef to hold his ears and made him perform sit-ups. He also kicked him and made him lick his own spit. The whole incident was recorded by the villagers.

Furthermore, the Dainik Bhaskar team reached Dumka SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar, he said that the victim’s family has not filed any written complaint in the police station in this matter, hence he has nothing to say on this.

In addition, we discovered a tweet from Jharkhand’s News18. In an interview, Devendra Kunvar addressed the situation, defending his conduct and calling the incident as “politically motivated.” He also stated that the video depicted the incident in an inaccurate manner. According to Kunwar, the young man who received punishment once recorded women taking baths. Thus, the accused was punished by the locals and hauled before the panchayat, where the gram sabha made the verdict.

Conclusion: There is no caste angle in the video as the victim is from the Muslim community and not a lower caste Hindu community. The victim was punished by the panchayat after he was allegedly caught making videos of women bathing.
