In the Rajya Sabha elections held on February 27 in three states—Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh—significant political developments unfolded, particularly drawing attention to the Karnataka polls. Numerous media outlets reported that during the celebration of Congress candidate Syed Naseer Hussain’s victory in the Rajya Sabha elections, supporters were heard chanting “Pakistan zindabad” in the Karnataka assembly.
Predictably, the nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a robust criticism of the purportedly anti-national slogan. In response, the Congress Party dismissed these allegations, denouncing them as a manifestation of the BJP’s divisive politics. Subsequently, the Congress asserted that if any individual was indeed responsible for raising the “Pakistan Zindabad” slogan, they would face consequences.
On the social media platform, Mohammad Zubair, the co-founder of Alt News, claimed through a sequence of tweets that the alleged “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans were not raised. Instead, he asserted that the chants were in support of Syed Nassir Hussain. Zubair proceeded to substantiate his stance by publishing an article affirming the incident’s innocence. If this dangerously False and misleading claim was shared by others targeting BJP, IT minister @Rajeev_GoI would have forced @elonmusk @X to withhold the account. But because the Union Minister is Incharge of IT, He has the right to indulge in spreading Fake News.

Several Kannada news channels, BJP leaders and Right Wing handles have claimed that pro-Pakistan slogans were shouted in Karnataka after Congress candidate's win in RS elections, whereas the actual slogan raised was 'Naseer Saab Zindabad' | @Oishanib_https://t.co/q8rkvEKMUO

In a series of tweets, Mohammad Zubair unequivocally exonerated the accused individuals, demonstrating a lack of hesitation in absolving them of any involvement in the purported anti-national activity. Raising the Pakistan Zindabad slogan is deemed as serious and tantamount to treason. Zubair’s swift exoneration and vocal defense of those allegedly involved raises questions about the boundaries between objective analysis and potential bias, particularly in addressing actions with significant national security implications.

Fact Check
Six days following the occurrence on the night of the Rajya Sabha Elections, recent reports confirm that the Bengaluru police have apprehended three individuals for their involvement in raising “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans within the Karnataka Assembly premises after the victory of a Congress leader in the Rajya Sabha election.
As per the latest information from India Today, the Bengaluru police have taken into custody three individuals who have now been identified as Ilthaz from Delhi, Munavar from RT Nagar in Bengaluru, and Mohammad Shafi hailing from Byadagi in Haveri.
While speaking to News 18 DCP Central, Bengaluru City Police said “The arrested people have been identified as Iltaz, Munawar and Mohammed Shafi Nashipudi. “All three arrests are based on FSL report, circumstantial evidence, witness statements and other evidence,”
Moreover, Bengaluru-based media agency Asianet Suvarna News shared a police order. The order said, “Date:- On 27-02-2024 during the Rajya Sabha election results held at Vidhansouda regarding shouting slogan ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ Vidhansouda Police Station Mo.No. Case will be registered as on 20/2024.
In this background, based on the FSL report, circumstantial evidence, witness statements and available evidence, 03 accused persons were arrested and legal action was initiated against them.”
Hence, there is unequivocal confirmation that the “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans were indeed raised in the Karnataka assembly following the victory chants for Congress candidate Syed Nasir Hussain.
This incident unfolds on multiple nuanced levels. Firstly, the disconcerting episode of “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans resonating in Bengaluru, Karnataka and too in inside the assembly house. Secondly, it’s worrying that close associates of supporters of a Congress leader, now a Member of Parliament, are implicated in raising anti-national and treacherous slogans. Lastly, the forceful repudiation of these slogans came from Mohammad Zubair, co-founder of Alt News. However, concerns arise as many left-leaning, Islamist individuals, and opposition party leaders rallied behind Zubair’s defense. The fact that Zubair promptly defended figures like Ilthaz , Munavar, and Mohammad Shafi before thorough consideration raises questions about the responsibilities and biases of self-proclaimed fact-checkers. So, it’s up to the readers to reflect on the nature of this complex situation and draw their conclusions regarding which actions are most morally reprehensible.
