During our investigation into the viral video showing the harassment of a Muslim girl wearing a hijab, we conducted a reverse video search and stumbled upon a surprising discovery. We found a YouTube video uploaded on the official channel of Times Now on April 27, 2023, that showed the reality of the incident. This video featured the same visuals as the viral video but with a completely different context. According to the Times Now reporter in the video, the Muslim girl in the hijab was actually harassed and manhandled by men from her own community for roaming with a guy from another community, who happened to be Hindu. The incident was a result of the girl’s association with a boy from a different community, which had caused outrage among her own people. It was reported that a complaint had been registered over the incident.

Next, we came across another video posted on the official Times of India YouTube channel on April 27, 2023, which sheds more light on the incident. This video also featured the same visuals as the viral video but again with a completely different context. According to the Times of India video, a group of Muslim youths harassed and manhandled a Muslim girl by pulling her hijab and forcefully snatching her phone, simply for being friends with a Hindu man. Moreover, the video also shows that three Muslim youths who were involved in the harassment have already been arrested. The Police inspector, who was interviewed in the video, stated that an investigation is ongoing, but they are facing challenges in obtaining details from the traumatized victim, who is not in the right state of mind to speak at the moment.

Next, we conducted keyword research with the words “hijab-clad woman harassed by youths in Maharashtra” which led us to a report published by Opindia on April 27, 2023. The report featured the same visuals as the viral video, and it confirmed that the incident took place in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. According to the report, three males were arrested by the police for harassing a Muslim college girl who was wearing a hijab. The video of the incident had gone viral on social media. The boys had snatched the girl’s mobile phone, and she can be seen in the video asking them to give it back. The reason for the harassment was the suspicion of the boys that the girl was hanging out with a Hindu man. The incident occurred when the girl had come to visit the famous Bibi Ka Maqbara in the city.
