On March 18, 2023, the official Twitter handle of the National Hindi news channel JK24x7 shared a video of Energy Minister AK Sharma inspecting the Barabanki sub-station in Uttar Pradesh amidst a power failure. The tweet claimed that the minister had to use a mobile torch to carry out his inspection.
Moreover, some other Twitter handles like Jammu Parivartan, Ravish Kumar (Parody), Ahmed Suhel Yaseen, etc also shared the same video with the same claim.
However, as with any viral video, it’s important to Fact-check the claims being made to separate truth from fiction. In this article, we’ll examine the facts surrounding Minister AK Sharma’s inspection and the alleged use of a mobile torch.

Fact Check
During our research, we first did keyword research with the words Light went off during AK Sharma’s visit to Barabanki Sub-station. During this, we came across a Navbharat Times report. However, the report was published on September 14, 2022. According to this report, Uttar Pradesh’s power minister AK Sharma made a surprise check at Barabanki Substation to inspect the services. Moreover, according to the report, Samajwadi party leaders mocked the Power minister AK Sharma’s inspection and claimed that there was no electricity during AK Sharma’s inspection at the Substation.
However, according to the report Power Minister AK Sharma denied all the accusations of the Samajwadi Party. According to him, there was no power cut during his inspection at the Substation. As per AK Sharma, electricity was there during his inspection and the people near him were flashing their flashlights only out of love.
Next, we decided to go through the official Twitter handle of Power Minister AK Sharma. During this, we came across his tweets from September 13, 2022.
In one of his tweets from September 13, 2022, he wrote, Today, on the second day of ‘Electricity Solution Week’, shortly before 8 pm, visited Badel sub-centre of Barabanki district. Supporting the working electrical workers, inspected the arrangements made by the department.
This proves that the whole incident is not recent as projected and claimed by the above social media handles but is 7 months old.
Now let’s verify whether there was electricity during AK Sharma’s inspection at Barabanki Substation or not.
After reviewing the video shared by JK24x7 and other social media users, it appears that their claim that there was no electricity during Energy Minister AK Sharma’s inspection at the Barabanki sub-station in Uttar Pradesh may be unfounded. At the 38-second mark of the video, a street light near the table where Sharma was sitting flashes on, indicating that there was power at the substation during his inspection.
Moreover, we also checked the pictures shared by AK Sharma on his official Twitter handle from the site of inspection i.e barabanki substation. However, in all the pictures it can be clearly seen that there is enough light which means there is no power cut during his visit to the Substation.
Hence, all these points prove that all the claims made by the various social media handles that there was no electricity during Power Minister AK Sharma’s visit to Barabanki Substation and that the Incident is recent are false.
