Against the backdrop of the recent controversy sparked by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ramesh Bidhuri’s remarks directed at Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Danish Ali during a Lok Sabha session, another controversial statement attributed to Bidhuri, involving discriminatory remarks about North Indians, has gained significant attention on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
Samajwadi Party national secretary and spokesperson Rajiv Rai (Archived link) posted a newspaper clipping titled, “Ramesh Bidhuri: Now is the time to chase the people of UP and Bihar from Delhi.” According to the newspaper clipping, Bidhuri made this controversial statement during a meeting in Mahipalpur village of South Delhi. In his statement, he emphasized that people who come to Delhi from UP and Bihar are involved in wrongful activities ranging from theft to damaging the environment. Bidhuri reportedly suggested a solution to deal with such persons, stressing the need to hire them and then forcefully remove them from the city.
In addition, another account, Dr. Suraj Yadav Mandal (Archived link), tweeted the same newspaper clipping and added, “Everyone’s turn will come. The BJP RSS is now targeting laborers and poor people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. They’ll throw them out of Delhi.”
Moreover, the newspaper clipping was also shared by the Pardaphash Hindi journalist, Priya Singh (Archived link), who is followed by the propaganda fact checker, Mohammad Zubair. Priya wrote, “Now that Netaji is becoming unbridled, he has now realized that there is a crowd of bhakts (a term used for BJP supporters), and he can say whatever he wants. Bhakts will come out in support. Now they are asking the people of UP and Bihar to flee from Delhi.”
Fact Check
In our fact-checking report, we have conclusively determined that the claim in question is misleading and false. Ramesh Bidhuri, the BJP MP, has not made the alleged statement. Our research has revealed that this fabricated quote attributed to him originally surfaced on social media in the year 2018.
When this statement was going viral Mr. Bidhuri took to his Facebook account and Twitter (Archived link), now known as X, to issue a clarification and unequivocal denial, emphasizing that he has never gave any such statement. Furthermore, he highlighted that this is not an isolated incident; in the past, specifically on June 24, a similar false post had been circulated by members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), prompting them to issue a public apology. Bidhuri also pointed out that instances of baseless allegations against him had occurred during the 2014 elections as well.
Later, BJP Delhi too declared this as fake news. They tweeted from their official X handle (Archived link) regarding the same and wrote, “Delhi BJP denies this news being spread on social media by some anti-social elements. This news is completely false and baseless and is being spread as part of a well-planned conspiracy by those who want to divide the society for their politics. It has no connection with BJP or any of its leaders.”
Therefore, according to the clarification issued by Ramesh Bidhuri and BJP Delhi, the claim that Mr. Bidhuri had said that people of UP-Bihar should be driven out of Delhi is false and misleading.
