A video recently gained traction across social media platforms, depicting police personnel assisting an individual who had been shot in the leg. However, propagandist Ali Sohrab shared the viral video on X and wrote, In Shahzadnagar, Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, The constitutional police, using their constitutional rights, shot Shahbaz, a Muslim youth, in the leg after accusing him of being a “cattle smuggler”. “Everything else is fine.”
X handle named The Muslim wrote India is heaven for Muslims. The Constitutional Police shot Shahbaz, a Muslim youth, in the leg after accusing him of being a “cattle smuggler” in Shahzadnagar, Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.
Anti-Hindu X handle HindutvaWatch wrote, In Shahzadnagar, Rampur, Uttar Pradesh Police fired at an alleged “cattle smuggler,” who sustained bullet injury in his leg.
During our investigation, the keyword research with the relevant keywords led us to a report by Amar Ujala, dated January 7, 2024, featuring a familiar face – the individual seen in the viral video, shot in the leg. This report sheds light on an incident involving the police and Shahbaz, identified as a cattle smuggler, in the Shahzadnagar police station area during an encounter on a Saturday evening.
According to the report, Shahbaz engaged in an attempt to evade the police, resorting to opening fire on the police team. In response to this aggressive action, the police retaliated, causing Shahbaz to sustain an injury to his leg. Following this confrontation, Shahbaz was swiftly admitted to the hospital for medical attention.
The report further reveals an alarming history tied to Shahbaz, citing numerous registered cases implicating him in cattle smuggling activities. Shahbaz has a troubling record, with a total of eight cases lodged against him for involvement in cattle smuggling. Adding to this, he faces accusations under the Gangster Act. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi elucidated that the police action was prompted by information regarding the unlawful slaughter of cattle. Moreover, a subsequent search of Shahbaz yielded the discovery of a bike, a pistol, and cartridges in his possession, further complicating the situation.
Hence, all these points debunk the notion that the police shot Shahbaz solely based on an accusation of cattle smuggling. Shahbaz’s established history as a repeat offender, with a total of eight documented cases linked to cattle smuggling and additional accusations under the Gangster Act, underscores the gravity of his involvement in unlawful activities. Moreover, Shahbaz initiated the violent encounter by firing upon the police team first, prompting the officers to respond in self-defense as a result Shahbaz sustained an injury to his leg.
