Debunking Hindutva Terrorist Narrative, Couple fighting in the viral video are not Hindus

On August 24, 2023, a Twitter user named Sukhpreet posted a video showing a couple initially arguing and then getting into a fight with others. In the tweet, Sukhpreet labelled the people involved in the fight as “Hindutva Terrorist”, implying that the individuals causing the disturbance were associated with Hindu extremism.

So, is it true that the individuals causing the disturbance in the video were Hindutva terrorist? Let’s Fact Check.

During our investigation, our first step was to conduct a reverse search on the video that Sukhpreet had shared. What we discovered was intriguing. A 2-minute and 20-second YouTube video with the title Fight between Boyfriend and Girlfriend, dated August 22, 2023, was found on a channel named Mohammed Shahbaz. Astonishingly, the visuals in this video mirrored those in Sukhpreet’s post. However, the video’s description told a different story: A fight between Boyfriend and Girlfriend, and then these guys interfere in Goa over damage to the bar and Restaurant. Interestingly, the terms “Hindutva” and “terrorist” were notably absent from the video’s description.

After this, we stumbled upon an enlightening report from India Posts English, published on August 24, 2023. The visuals showcased in the report matched precisely with the video that Sukhpreet had shared. But here’s the twist: according to the report, the entire incident unfolded in the Bandrej area of North Goa. The scenario played out in Porvorim, where a couple, Jason and Jemia, caused a significant disturbance late into the night on August 20, apparently due to their intoxicated state as they both were drunk. Trouble began at a local wine and dine shop, where Jason engaged in a heated argument with the cashier.

However, amidst the altercation, another tourist tried to mediate, only to get embroiled in the fray. What followed was a clash between the inebriated couple and the intervening tourist, resulting in torn clothing and chaos. The roughly three-minute video captures the couple repeatedly initiating confrontations. Notably, after a fight with a tourist from Kerala, an FIR was lodged by the tourist against the couple.

Furthermore, we found another report, this time by TV9 Gujarati, published on August 24, 2023. The visuals showcased in the report were the same as in the video that Sukhpreet had shared. According to this report, the whole incident happened in North Goa. In Porvorim, on the late night of August 20, a couple named Jason and Jamia, who were quite drunk, caused a big scene. Their trouble started at a shop in Goa, where Jason argued with the cashier. Another tourist tried to calm things down, but the couple ended up fighting with this tourist too. The situation escalated when they had a fight with a tourist from Kerala, who then lodged an FIR against the couple.

Hence, all these points prove that the absence of any reference to Hindutva or terrorism in the reports solidifies the fact that this incident is devoid of any such angle. It is apparent that Sukhpreet’s attempt to label this incident as an act of Hindutva terrorist was misplaced and driven by evil motives beyond the actual events.
