On November 4, 2022, Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann through his twitter account claimed that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi is playing dirty politics over the “Red Light On, Car Off” campaign by not permitting Delhi Government to start the campaign. L-G should not continue this dirty politics over a serious matter.
Fact Check
In our research, with the help of the keyword search “Red Light On, Car Off campaign”, we found India Today report, as per report Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai blamed Lieutenant Governor for the cancellation of the campaign, which was allegedly scheduled on October 28. In response to the blame put by Gopal Rai, the L-G house said that the AAP Minister had provided incomplete facts, and files were sent on October 21 and up to October 27 the offices were closed due to gazetted and restricted holidays of Diwali. In files sent to L-G for approval the mentioned campaign’s rolled out date was October 31.
Further, according to the report, the files were not perfunctory and they need proper consideration as well.
Moreover, the Indian Express reported that the L-G concluded that Red Light On, Car Off campaign will not improve the quality of the air as it is not a sustainable model for the long term. He also cited that previous campaign failed to have an effective outcome in improving air quality. Nonetheless, the Delhi government could employ certain technology methods to enhance air quality.
Hence, the above-stated facts show that the claim made by the CM of Punjab Bhagwant Mann is incomplete and incorrect with an intention to mislead the people.
