A video showing a group of men running behind a van and seizing an EVM is being widely shared on social media with the claim that, during the 2026 Assembly elections in Bolpur, West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers surrounded a vehicle carrying EVMs. The posts claim that the machine was being transported late at night after polling had concluded, suggesting electoral fraud.

Sharing the video, the handle India with Congress wrote, “EVMs found moving late at night in #Bolpur, that’s 4th in a row, hours after polls closed. After 6 pm, everything should be sealed and accounted for. So, what exactly is still ‘on the move’? @ECISVEEP must answer?”

Another handle, Haji Nizamuddin Abbasi, asserted, “In Bengal, the game is over—EVM caught red-handed at midnight, TMC folks laid siege to the vehicle. We’re not roaring like this for nothing—we’re winning, sure, but there’s definitely something fishy in the dal. With the democracy-killing EVMs and the Chief Election Commissioner’s complicity, BJP is succeeding in forming governments in every state. If elections were conducted honestly, BJP wouldn’t stand a chance.”

User Sanjay Gaddam, wrote, “West Bengal is gone guys. GyanLess Kumar has done his magic already with SIR and the rest was accomplished using military and police forces. Democracy is dead. For anyone who believes otherwise, my sympathies.”

The report further states that BJP leaders, including candidate Dilip Ghosh, raised suspicions that a sector officer was involved in EVM smuggling. Following this, party workers chased the vehicle, which was eventually stopped at Shriniketan Chowk in Bolpur. The workers also protested against the sector officer, alleging that there was a plan to replace the EVMs. However, no sector officer or security personnel were present in the vehicle. Sector Officer Soumashree Mitra dismissed the allegations and clarified that the vehicle was carrying 14 reserve EVM units meant for contingency use as part of standard election procedures, and that these machines were not used for voting.

In conclusion, the claim that an EVM was seized by TMC workers at midnight in Bengal is misleading. In reality, the vehicle was chased by BJP workers on allegations of EVM smuggling.
