Recently, a video of Rahul Gandhi has surfaced. In this video, he said “It was the rule of kings and emperors, they used to do whatever they wanted. If someone wanted land, he would take it away. The Congress Party and our workers, together with the people of the country, achieved independence, brought democracy and got the Constitution for the country.” After this statement of Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi in his various rally meetings took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi for his statement. PM Modi in Karnataka meeting said, “He (Gandhi) accused the kings and maharajas of grabbing the land and property of the people and the poor. The Congress prince insulted great personalities like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Rani Chennamma of Kittur. Whose administration and patriotism inspire us even today.” Further, recalling the contribution the former royal family of Mysuru, PM Modi said that the Congress prince made such statements deliberately keeping in mind vote bank politics and appeasement. He added that “the former royal family of Mysuru is still respected across the country for their contributions. The prince spoke ill of the kings and maharajas, but the prince’s mouth was silenced about the atrocities committed by the Nawabs, Nizams, Sultans and Emperors in the history of India.”
Objections were raised over the statement of Rahul Gandhi. Jaiveer Raj Singh, a young member of the former royal family of Bhavnagar, expressed objection to this. Vibha Devvrat Singh, daughter-in-law of Khairagarh royal family in Raipur, expressed her displeasure. As soon as the Congress party went on the backfoot, Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair came to the rescue of Rahul Gandhi. By sharing a video of PM Modi, Zubair tried to prove that Narendra Modi had also given a similar statement.

Zubair sharing the video mockingly wrote, “You must have heard a recent statement of the prince of BJP.” The overlay text on the video says, “when the opposition talks about kings, Modi attacks him and calls him Shivaji Maharaj. And connect with Rani Chennamma. Hypocrisy also has limits.” In this video PM Modi is addressing the Parliament where he says “British were remembered here in the Parliament house. At that time the kings and emperors had a deep connection with the British. I want to ask who was influenced by the British.”
Apart from Zubair, Prateek Singh also shared PM Modi’s video and wrote, ‘Today, the two rupee BJP IT Cell is sharing the statement of Rahul Gandhi on King-Maharaj as they want to suppress the protest of Rajput community, but when their Rupala and Godi Papa make statements, they don’t say anything. He has completed his PhD in the subject of hypocrisy.”

Fact Check
During fact check research, we found PM Modi’s full address on Sansad TV channel on YouTube. On February 7, 2024, PM Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha on the motion of thanks to the President’s address. In this video, at 22:17 minutes, PM Modi says, “The British were remembered here in the Parliament house, now at that time the kings and emperors had a deep connection with the British. I want to ask who was influenced by the British. I will not ask who gave birth to the Congress Party (British officer Allan Octavian Hume), who promoted the mentality of slavery in the country even after independence.”
PM Modi further adds, “If you (Congress) were not influenced by the British then why was the penal code made by the British not changed? If you were not influenced by the British then why did hundreds of laws of the British era continue to operate? If you were not influenced by the British then why did the red light culture continue even after decades? If you were not influenced by the British then why did you continue the tradition of releasing the Indian budget in the evening according to the time of the British Parliament? If you were not inspired by the British then why were the symbols of slavery still there on the insignia of our armies? We are removing them one by one.”
PM Modi continuing the attack on Congress further says, “If you were not inspired by the English, why did you have to wait for Modi to make Rajpath duty? If you were not influenced by the British then why were the signs of British rule hanging on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands? If you were not influenced by the British, then why did the country’s army soldiers kept dying but a war memorial could not be built in their honor? If you were not influenced by the British then why did you look at Indian languages with inferiority complex, why were you indifference towards studying in the local language? If you were not influenced by the British then who would have stopped you from calling India the Mother of Democracy? I can give hundreds of examples under what influence you worked.”
Conclusion: It is evident from our research that the video shared by Mohammad Zubair is edited. In the unedited version of the video, PM Modi had talked about kings and emperors in the context of the Congress Party. He said that the Congress party was influenced by the British. British officer Allan Octavian Hume (A.O.Hume) was one of the founders of the Indian National Congress.
